The CSTK Philadelphia shop is heated. It is not air conditioned.

What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

Our shop currently has 12 technicians, 2 lead technicians, 1 shop supervisor, 1 service advisor, 1 service manager, 1 parts supervisor, 3 parts specialists, and 2 service fillers.

What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

Monday - Friday 6:00 AM - 6:00 PM 1st Shift: 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM 2nd Shift: 9:30 AM - 6:00 PM NO WEEKENDS!!

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

CSTK Philadelphia provides computers, specialty tools, major equipment, and software. We also have a comprehensive tool purchase program for entry level technicians. You are given the tools upfront, with the option to pay for them throughout the year at NO interest.

What type of break room facility is provided?

We have a designated air-conditioned break and locker room which contains a refrigerator, microwave, tables, and chairs.

How many bays does your shop have?

We currently have 5 drive-through bays.

How many repair orders do you average per month?

On average, we fulfill 300 orders per month.

What is your parts ordering process?

Technicians use our dealer management system to write up diagnostics and parts orders. A parts specialist will pre-pull or order all parts as necessary, and they will be provided at the counter to the technicians.

What is your policy on side work?

No regular Employee on his/her time off shall solicit or do any mechanical work performed by the Company.

Through our dealer partner Thermo King, we offer a paid formal comprehensive training program that will prepare you to move from entry level to master technician within 5 years, including significant pay raises at each step, clear goals, and a defined pay structure.

Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

Can you describe your performance review process?

Performance is judged by industry standard metrics such as productivity and accuracy. We provide frequent monthly feedback. Increases in metrics such as productivity come with increases in compensation.

What type of safety training is required?

We use an outside safety firm that provides online training, as well as an additional safety evaluator that constantly provides on-site evaluations and recommendations for all necessary safety checkoffs.

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

Entry level technicians at CSTK start off as installers, where they will be teamed up with a lead tech who provides guidance and support. As their skills improve, technicians advance to doing diagnostic and repair, still under the guidance of a senior technician. Our team of senior technicians fully understand the value of mentorship and sharing their expertise.

How does your shop get involved with the local community?

CSTK participates in the 'We Move Food' initiative, a nationwide Thermo King philanthropic program designed to increase access to fresh healthy food by reducing waste and supporting nutrition education for families and communities that struggle with hunger and food instability. Our individual team members also get involved in local charities by direct donations, discounts, and volunteer work. Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

CSTK Philadelphia constantly works with local tech schools, either on our own or through Thermo King, to encourage students to enter the transportation industry. UTI University and Pennsylvania College of Technology are just two examples of schools we work with.

Where do you see the shop in five years?

CSTK is always moving forward. 5 years from now we will still be committed to remaining a leader in the refrigeration industry through our training, technology, and commitment to our employees. As always, we will be dedicated first and foremost to our exceeding our customers' expectations.

Yes, we conduct a short telephone interview prior to scheduling an onsite interview.

What do your in-person interviews entail?

Our in-person interviews consist of a 30-minute discussion with members of our Service Department management team to get to know the candidate, his/her qualifications, and what type of career he/she is looking for.

We perform a background check and drug screening. There is no personality test component.

A Level Technician
A Level Technicians are highly skilled technicians that have strengths in their diagnostic and mechanical ability. This level of technician typically has many years of experience and education. We view an A Level Technician as the highest skilled technician in a shop
Pay Range: $35 - $37/hour

B Level Technician
B Level Technicians are skilled in mechanical repair and, while not their specialty, have some diagnostic skills. B Level Technicians generally have a fair amount of experience and can be trusted to handle most repairs.
Pay Range: $30 - $33/hour

C Level Technician
C Level Technicians are more of entry level technicians. C Level Technicians’ responsibilities typically include basic maintenance, alignments, brake and suspension work, along with other base level repairs.
Pay Range: $24 - $28/hour

Student Tech / Apprentice
Student technicians work on entry level tasks while completing their school programs.
Pay Range: $18 - $22/hour
