Under The Hood

Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

The shop is heated through the winter with multiple Reznor overhead heaters. The shop is cooled with multiple porta coolers throughout the shop that maintains the temp very well.

What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

We have a total of 32 technicians that range from express techs all the way to world class MTC techs, including diesel and transmission specialists.

What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

Main Shop M-F 8:00am-5:00pm with Lunch from 12:00-1:00pm Our express is open on SAT from 8am-2pm with lunch provided.

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

All GM Special Tools and Snap On Diagnostic Scanners are provided. We also provide all pole jacks, trans jacks, powertrain tables as well as supplied step stools, specialized diagnostic and repair tools provided by General Motors, including MDI's.

What type of break room facility is provided?

Air-conditioned Break Room with Satellite TV, Fridge, Microwave and fresh coffee located remotely upstairs for peace and quiet.

How many bays does your shop have?

We have 34 bays, 1 alignment rack. Looking to expand our real estate to re-locate our used car team to provide more customer pay service bays.

How many repair orders do you average per month?

800 Customer Pay RO's 500 Warranty RO's 500 Internal RO's

What is your parts ordering process?

We use Xtime which links the tech and the parts department together through software to make parts ordering very seamless and keeps technician productive. We have a dedicated team of parts employees for our service department to ensure prompt service.

What is your policy on side work?

During non-business hours is fine, and shop is open on weekends for the techs to work on their own vehicles.

Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?

An amazing Shop Forman with an ex-tech in dispatch who does an amazing job getting the right work to the right tech. Very tight knit team that are willing to help each other. Our shop is dedicated to giving the technicians as much training they want and will send out of state to hands on classes. Service Manager is also an EX-tech who has worked in every position within service allowing him to help in ways other service managers cannot.

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

Yes, All GM training hands on or web based is paid for completely by the company. No out-of-pocket expenses when persuing education. Per diem allocated to tech for food expenses as well. ASE certs as well as smog license acquired during employment is covered as well.

Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

We provide an amazing training program to allow the tech to choose what direction he/she would like to pursue. As well as increasing the compensation upon completing the program. This program allows you to grow and gravitate step by step towards any occupation within the dealership world you would choose.

Can you describe your performance review process?

The beginning of every month each employee will sit down with the Fixed Operations Director and go over last months performance and goals for the current month. This is mainly to help the manager eliminate any obstacles that prohibit the employee from reaching their goals.

What type of safety training is required?

Training requirements consist of the following typical Osha and cyber security. We provide daily updates on new and upcoming safety related issues in the daily morning tech huddle. We conduct rack equipment safety checks on a strict schedule to maintain a safe and worry-free work environment.

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

We have a World Class Master tech who is dedicated to helping younger techs grow but as a whole the younger techs work with the service manager to keep a controlled environment to help them reach Master Status.

How does your shop get involved with the local community?

We as a dealership are a huge supporter and sponsor to many local organizations and clubs. Who donate their time to charity and assisting the less fortunate. This also includes donations to local schools and programs to help educate the younger generation into growing into the leaders we need.

Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

Yes, we are currently sponsoring Spanish springs high school as well as North valleys high school in locating and finding components for their shop program to tear apart and rebuild to assist them in the fundamentals of the trade. We have also started with the local college in the Step and ASEP program to train the future techs on the GM platform.

Is there anything else you’d like to mention about career development and community?

We encourage our employees to push the envelope and strive to reach the pinnacle of their career field. Anything we can do to help the advancement of our employees is the top priority of this dealership.

Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

If we could talk to prospect employees (especially if moving from out of state) on the phone it is usually a better situation for both parties. It's best to be on the same page before someone travels for an in-person interview.

What do your in-person interviews entail?

We have an in-person interview or zoom call depending on location. This typically includes the shop Forman as well as the Dispatcher. We take pride in our culture and always like to be on the same page when hiring a new technician, just to reassure fitment.

Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?

YES, we do request a drug screen and background check upon hire.

Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?

No, this is determined usually from the conversation from the in person interview..

After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?

24 Hours should be expected.

Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?

It roughly takes 1 week for the background check and drug screen to come back to approve the hire.

Is there anything else you’d like to mention about your hiring process?

Any questions or anything the prospect employee wants we will accommodate. It is very important the employee is 100% comfortable with the decision and has all the information they need.

Retirement Plan Offered
The company offers a 401(k) plan through Bell Bank. You may enroll after one full year of employment. The minimum requirement to participate is 3% of your gross wages and the company matches 50% of your dollar up to 3%. You may contact the personnel department for more detailed information.
Sick Leave Offered
Under the Healthy Families & Workplaces Act, employees who do not accrue paid sick leave under Employer’s general paid sick leave policy will accrue one hour of paid sick leave for every 30 hours worked, up to 48 hours per year. Employees can roll over three years for a total of 144 hours. Employees can carry over unused accrued sick leave from one year to the next, but employees may not use more than 48 hours of paid sick leave in a year.
Vacation Offered
The company provides paid vacation based upon length of service.: For employees who are not compensated by commissions, paid time off for vacation is granted on the anniversary date of your employment, and it is not accrued during the 20 year. Employees do not have available, accrue or earn vacation pay in their first year of employment. Commissioned employees may elect to be paid for their vacation in lieu of time off. For commission employees their payment is figured as 1/52 of the prior year’s earnings per week of vacation pay. Paid Holidays Offered
Holiday pay is eligible to full-time employees who work 36-40 hours per week and have met the probationary period of 90 days. Paid holidays are determined each year based upon the dealership’s calendar and objectives and may vary among departments and locations. Your supervisor will explain the paid holidays that pertain to you. Holiday pay does not count as “hours worked” for purposes of calculating an employee’s entitlement to overtime during the week in which the holiday occurs.
