Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

Our shop is fully enclosed and air conditioned.

What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

We currently house 16 line technicians and 7 express technicians.

What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

Our shop is open M-F from 7am-7pm and Sat 8am-5pm. Line tech shifts are 7am-4pm. 8am-5pm, 9am-6pm, and 10am-7pm. Our express tech shifts are 8am-5pm and 3:30pm-7pm (for students). Our technicians have a 5 day work week with rotating Saturdays.

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

All factory required and "bench" tools (on-car brake lathe, alignment racks, tire balancers etc.) are provided by the dealer. Individual tools are provided by technicians (excluding express technicians-basic tool kits are dealer issued).

What type of break room facility is provided?

We have 2 break rooms. One down stairs located in the shop and one upstairs in the accounting department.

How many bays does your shop have?

We have 18 bays in the main shop and 3 express bays.

How many repair orders do you average per month?

We average about 1700 RO's a month.

What is your parts ordering process?

We use a combination of XTime ASR and CDK to locate, order, and request parts.

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

We offer several continued education avenues. Express and C-techs attend bi-monthly in house trainings on a multitude of different subjects. Classes are led by Master Techs and include hands on training on the assigned subject. All technicians are assigned factory training to be performed online and are also sent to tech school for the hands on learning portion. Additionally, all techs that take and pass an ASE Certification, will be reimbursed for the test amount and bonused an additional $100.00 per test.

Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

Due to our dealer being a part of Asbury Automotive, there are endless career advancement opportunities. Asbury now operates 155 new vehicle dealerships in 15 states, consisting of 198 franchises for the sale and servicing of 31 different brands of American, European and Asian automobiles. Asbury also operates seven stand-alone used vehicle dealerships, 34 collision repair centers, an auto auction, a used vehicle wholesale business and Total Care Auto, Powered by Landcar, a leading provider of service contracts and other vehicle protection products. There's no end to where you could take your career.

Can you describe your performance review process?

New hires receive a review at 30, 60, 90, 180, and 365 days from their hire date. I personally like to stay involved with each of my team members regarding their current status and their personal growth. After one year, the reviews will occur annually.

What type of safety training is required?

We perform standard safety training for equipment and tools.

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

We have an in house mentorship program for our incoming C-Tech apprentices. They have a set amount of skills to master in a minimum of one year in additional to the previously mentioned bi-monthly training program. Each C-tech is paired with a Master Tech to be their personal mentor. Their Master-Tech is tasked with guiding them through everything from basic disassembly/replacement to diagnostic paths and theory.

How does your shop get involved with the local community?

We partner with the local technical school to share "a day in the life of working at a dealership". Students will come in and try every position in the service department to get a true feel of what it will be like after school. Additionally, we have afternoon shifts available for current students to attend while they're finishing school.

Where do you see the shop in five years?

In 5 years I plan to have completed an expansion to the shop that will allow for an additional 4 service bays to be attached to the current building. The floors are going to be re-surfaced and the drain system renewed. I plan to have an after-hours program for Honda Dream service to be available.

Do you have an application form and how long does it typically take to complete?

We do have a standard application form. It takes only a few minutes to fill out.

Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

I prefer in person interviews.

What do your in-person interviews entail?

Mostly regular conversation. We talk a little about your resume, however; I try to get to know the applicant.

Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?

We do perform a drug test, background screen, and personality test.

Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?

We do not perform a hands on skill assessment. We do perform a verbal skill assessment.

After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?

Typically within a day or two.

Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?

It can take as little as a few days depending on how quick the applicant completes their end of the paperwork.

A Level Technician
A Level Technicians are highly skilled technicians that have strengths in their diagnostic and mechanical ability. This level of technician typically has many years of experience and education. We view an A Level Technician as the highest skilled technician in a shop
Pay Range: $56,000 - $120,000/year

B Level Technician
B Level Technicians are skilled in mechanical repair and, while not their specialty, have some diagnostic skills. B Level Technicians generally have a fair amount of experience and can be trusted to handle most repairs.
Pay Range: $46,000 - $90,000/year

C Level Technician
C Level Technicians are more of entry level technicians. C Level Technicians’ responsibilities typically include basic maintenance, alignments, brake and suspension work, along with other base level repairs.
Pay Range: $34,000 - $65,000/year

Lube Technician
Lube Technicians are entry level technicians that focus on routine maintenance such as oil changes, changing tires, and inspections.
Pay Range: $30,000 - $36,000/year

Service Advisor
Service Advisors are primarily customer focused and, as one of the faces of the shop, they are critical in keeping customers happy. Service Advisors are frequently focused on taking customer calls, relaying information to technicians, and selling repair jobs. Both technical and sales experience are helpful for this position.
Pay Range: $40,000 - $110,000/year
