What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

Currently have 4 teams of technicians totaling 27 technicians

What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

Currently open from 7-5 Monday- Friday and 7-4pm on Saturday. Shifts ranging from start time of 7am-4pmor 8-5pm, Closed Sundays

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

Basic tools must be provided be technician. Specialty tools such as brake bleeders, diagnostic equipment, A/c machines and high voltage system tools provided by dealer. Some entry level technicians can be provided with basic tools.

What type of break room facility is provided?

Nice comfortable brake room with a/c and vending machines. TV with cable

How many bays does your shop have?

46 bays and 2 alignment machines

How many repair orders do you average per month?

What is your parts ordering process?

Most parts are pre pulled when an advisor creates the repair order. if a technician requires a part they may request it from their work bay using the computer and a parts runner will bring the parts to the technician

What is your policy on side work?

We have a zero tolerance for side work. You may bring in your personal vehicle or immediate family members vehicle with the managers approval

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

In addition to factory specific training, we offer tuition assistance to our teammates and their family through Bellevue University.

Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

We look to promote from within whenever possible. We have developed an apprenticeship program for technicians that are new to the business.

Can you describe your performance review process?

We perform annual performance reviews.

What type of safety training is required?

Online safety training as well as facility inspections are performed by our corporate Risk Management team.

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

The apprenticeship program offers a structured path to achieve knowledge and certification. Apprentice technicians are typically paired with a Master level technician who will follow a timeline to prepare the apprentice for success.

How does your shop get involved with the local community?

Community involvement is a core belief at Sonic Automotive. Our stores are encouraged to be involved with the communities they serve.

Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

As a company, Sonic Automotive works with as many local high schools and technical schools as possible to promote a career in automotive repair. This includes sponsoring classrooms, doing lunch and learns, speaking with students and parents at open houses, and participating in career fairs.

Where do you see the shop in five years?

BMW of Monrovia is dedicated to embracing the electrification movement. We see a huge push on training to keep up with technology. This advisement in technology present an opportunity to recapture business that would other wise go to independent shops that can't keep up with the expense and training required for eclectic vehicles.

Our Talent Development and Training teams have earned many awards and accolades including being inducted in Training Magazine's Hall of Fame

Do you have an application form and how long does it typically take to complete?

We have an online application process that is very user friendly and should only take a few minutes to complete. In some cases, depending on which state you apply in, at the time of an interview we have the applicant complete an additional paper form.

Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

We usually perform a quick phone screening prior to scheduling an interview.

What do your in-person interviews entail?

The in person interview usually consists of 1-2 dealership associates conducting the interview. During both the phone interview and in-person interview the candidate is given an opportunity to ask any questions that they may have about the job, our benefits, and company culture.

Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?

We do perform background and drug tests on all applicants. A reasonably clean driving record is required. we do employ an online assessment as a tool to get to know the candidate more than just what is on their resume.

Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?

No, skills are assessed through the discovery process during the interviews

After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?

That depends on the quantity of applicants, but our goal is to give candidate feedback on their candidacy in a timely manner.

Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?

Once a hiring decision has been made the process takes roughly 5 business days on average to complete the drug and background checks.

A Level Technician
A Level Technicians are highly skilled technicians that have strengths in their diagnostic and mechanical ability. This level of technician typically has many years of experience and education. We view an A Level Technician as the highest skilled technician in a shop
Pay Range: $85,000 - $120,000/year

Earn up to $4 more per hour with efficiency bonus.

B Level Technician
B Level Technicians are skilled in mechanical repair and, while not their specialty, have some diagnostic skills. B Level Technicians generally have a fair amount of experience and can be trusted to handle most repairs.
Pay Range: $75,000 - $90,000/year

Earn up to $4 more per hour with efficiency bonus.

C Level Technician
C Level Technicians are more of entry level technicians. C Level Technicians’ responsibilities typically include basic maintenance, alignments, brake and suspension work, along with other base level repairs.
Pay Range: $55,000 - $75,000/year

Earn up to $4 more per hour with efficiency bonus.

Lube Technician
Lube Technicians are entry level technicians that focus on routine maintenance such as oil changes, changing tires, and inspections.
Pay Range: $38,000 - $50,000/year

Service Advisor
Service Advisors are primarily customer focused and, as one of the faces of the shop, they are critical in keeping customers happy. Service Advisors are frequently focused on taking customer calls, relaying information to technicians, and selling repair jobs. Both technical and sales experience are helpful for this position.
Pay Range: $60,000 - $200,000/year

Student Tech / Apprentice
Student technicians work on entry level tasks while completing their school programs.
Pay Range: $28,000 - $38,000/hour
