Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

The shop is heated with A/C planned for 2023.

What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

We currently have 1 Shop Foreman, 13 A & B technicians, 4 technicians in our mentor program, and 3 Express technicians. There are 5 Service Advisors and 4 Parts counter people.

What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

We are open Monday- Friday from 7:00am- 6:00pm and Saturdays from 8:00am-2:00pm. We have two shifts- 7-4 (Mon - Fri) and 9-6 (Mon-Fri). Saturdays are on a rotation.

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

We provide all standard and special GM tools, as well as tire and alignment equipment.

What type of break room facility is provided?

Our breakroom has two microwaves, a refrigerator/freezer, and flat screen TV.

How many bays does your shop have?

40 bays

How many repair orders do you average per month?

We average 2,000 ROs per month

What is your parts ordering process?

We use an electronic system. Once a tech creates the estimate, it is automatically sent to parts for pricing and availability. It's then automatically sent to the advisors. Once approved, both the technician and parts is notified so parts can be delivered or ordered if necessary.

What is your policy on side work?

Personal vehicles are allowed to be worked on with a repair order. All other vehicles must go through the regular channels.

Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?

We have a dedicated Shop Foreman who is passionate about growing technicians and heads our Mentorship Program. Our estimate software allows you to stay in your bay and keep working while Parts and the Advisors sell the job!

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

We are passionate about growing technicians! Not only do we require manufacture-provided training, we also have a formal path in-house training path to help all technicians to get to the next level.

Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

We are part of one of the largest dealership groups in the country. There is tremendous opportunity for advancement and the availability to transfer to locations all over the country.

Can you describe your performance review process?

We do formal reviews three times in the first year and once a year after, but we work with each person regularly to assess where they are and how we can support them.

What type of safety training is required?

We have ongoing safety training through General Motors and in-house.

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

We have a written training path that includes training through the manufacturer and working closely with our Shop Foreman. We have a proven track record of growing Express Techs into B-Techs.

How does your shop get involved with the local community?

Bill Estes Chevrolet, along with Asbury as a whole, are very active in the community. We offer 40 hours paid of volunteer time for approved charities and work closely with our community partners to give all employees the opportunity to make a difference.

Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

We regularly attend Career Fairs at the local technical schools and work closely with the head of GM's ASEP Program.

Where do you see the shop in five years?

We are constantly evolving to grow our business and meet the needs of our guests.

Do you have an application form and how long does it typically take to complete?

We do have an application form that takes about 10 minutes to fill out.

Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

Yes, we like to get to know more about applicants before scheduling the in-person interview. But we are also happy to do walk-in interviews.

What do your in-person interviews entail?

The interview is all about making sure it is a good fit. We like to know what each applicant is looking for, what skills they currently have, and what we can do to help them achieve their goals. We will go over job duties, schedules, compensation, and a tour of the shop.

Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?

Yes, we require an online assessment, background check, and drug screening.

No.

After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?

Most decisions are made within 24 hours.

Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?

3-5 days on average.

The entire hiring process is all about making sure it is a good fit. We like to know what each applicant is looking for, what skills they currently have, and what we can do to help them achieve their goals.

A Level Technician
A Level Technicians are highly skilled technicians that have strengths in their diagnostic and mechanical ability. This level of technician typically has many years of experience and education. We view an A Level Technician as the highest skilled technician in a shop
Pay Range: $50,000 - $125,000/year

Weekly productivity bonuses based on hours turned. We also have a yearly Retention Bonus Program for those who have been with the company for a full year.

B Level Technician
B Level Technicians are skilled in mechanical repair and, while not their specialty, have some diagnostic skills. B Level Technicians generally have a fair amount of experience and can be trusted to handle most repairs.
Pay Range: $40,000 - $75,000/year

Weekly productivity bonuses based on hours turned. We also have a yearly Retention Bonus Program for those who have been with the company for a full year.

Lube Technician
Lube Technicians are entry level technicians that focus on routine maintenance such as oil changes, changing tires, and inspections.
Pay Range: $30,000 - $35,000/year

Starting at $15/hour

Service Advisor
Service Advisors are primarily customer focused and, as one of the faces of the shop, they are critical in keeping customers happy. Service Advisors are frequently focused on taking customer calls, relaying information to technicians, and selling repair jobs. Both technical and sales experience are helpful for this position.
Pay Range: $65,000 - $150,000/year

Commission-based pay for gross, CSI scores, product sales, and incentive contests.
