The company started in 2005 as Barnsco Fleet Maintenance to repair its parent companies trucks as well as other customers. In 2017 the company was bought by the original owners of Barnsco and the name was changed to Barnes Brothers Fleet Maintenance. Under The Hood

Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

We provide swamp coolers and portable heaters

What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

We currently employ 10 Mechanics, and we also have 1 Parts Runner plus 2 Service Advisors! Our executive team consists of 1 General Manager, 1 Sales Manager, and 2 Admin for a grand total of 17 people!

What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

Normal shop hours are 7:00am.-4:00pm. We have various starting times for mobile mechanics, and also in-shop mechanics.

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

We supply all major tools required to repair diesel trucks and trailers and expect the technician to have the basic tools required to repair trucks and trailers.

What type of break room facility is provided?

Our breakroom and drivers lounge, has soda and snack machines, a fridge as well as a microwave with utensils needed for lunch! Don't forget our Smart TV with access to over 100 different channels via streaming services!

How many bays does your shop have?

8 bays, with large and spacious areas throughout the space.

How many repair orders do you average per month?

Currently, we average around 150 repair orders per month. This number is increasing by the month!

What is your parts ordering process?

We are a paperless shop that works with tablets (iPads). When the technician diagnoses the problem, he is expected to submit on the iPad and also advise the service advisor of all parts needed to complete repair. The service advisor then orders parts (if not in stock) and they are either delivered same day or our parts runner goes after them pending availability.

What is your policy on side work?

No issue with side work, as long as it doesn't interfere with your work here.

Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?

We are proud to have 5+ employees with over 15 years of continuous employment with us.

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

With preapproval by management we are open for anything that will help you do a better job here. One of our core values is to improve until we are the very best.

Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

We would like to promote from within, As we open new shops we will be looking for shop managers, service advisors, salesman and general managers.

Can you describe your performance review process?

We like to do a 3 part employee review once a year and set goals for employees at that time.

What type of safety training is required?

None at this time.

We try to maintain a very team oriented culture and we let the younger techs assist the higher level mechanics until they get familiar enough with the repairs to work on them by their self.

We haven't at this time

Where do you see the shop in five years?

In 5 years we hope to have 2 more shops for a total of 3 . Employ approximately 30 employees with several employees promoted to new positions from within. We look to grow our mobile service to six full time mobile trucks. It is also important to us that we are a leader in technology involving fleet management repair services in the DFW area as well as maintain a 4.5 or better rating on social media platforms.

Our culture is very important to us as we try to bring value to employees as we work as a team. For that reason we do personality tests to make sure you can fit our culture as well as drug screening and background checks.

A Level Technician
A Level Technicians are highly skilled technicians that have strengths in their diagnostic and mechanical ability. This level of technician typically has many years of experience and education. We view an A Level Technician as the highest skilled technician in a shop
Pay Range: $70,000 - $90,000/year

Our average technician works 40-45 hours a week Monday-Friday. When work is available and at the employees willingness, additional hours are available. A monthly bonus is also available based on work billed as well as additional repairs recommended.

B Level Technician
B Level Technicians are skilled in mechanical repair and, while not their specialty, have some diagnostic skills. B Level Technicians generally have a fair amount of experience and can be trusted to handle most repairs.
Pay Range: $65,000 - $75,000/year

Our average technician works 40-45 hours a week Monday-Friday. When work is available and at the employees willingness, additional hours are available. A monthly bonus is also available based on work billed as well as additional repairs recommended. We have both shop as well as mobile technicians.

PM Mechanic Pay Range: $50,000 - $65,000/year

Health Insurance Offered
We offer health insurance where currently the employee pays 30% and the employer pays 70% of cost. Because we have high deductible insurance (currently $5,000) we also put $1500 a year in a medical savings plan that rolls over yearly to covers the first part of the deductible.

We offer 401K as well as profit sharing after 6 months of full time employment. For the 401K, we match 100% of money invested up to 4% of your yearly salary.

We offer paid time off after 90 days of employment. Initially we allow 1 day per month of employment for the 1st year (not to exceed 10 days). After 1 year 10 days total, after 3 years 15 days total, after 5 years 20 days, and after 10 years 25 days total.

After 90 days of employment, we pay for the 6 major holidays.

Uniforms Offered
We supply uniforms after 90 days of employment and offer employees uniforms after hired for a minimum rental expense if needed in the first 90 days.
Other Offered
Our goal is to have well trained mechanics and we will pay for additional training and schooling that will help you to do a better job as a technician when classes are preapproved by management with a C or better average. We also offer a small monthly performance bonus for all employees. For technicians, the bonus is paid based on additional recommended work as well as total work billed. The bonus averages around $.50 to $2.00 an hour over the month period.
