Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

Our office is certainly heated and air conditioned - one of the pros of moving from a shop environment to ABS!

What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

The warranty administrator team is approximately 13 people, while the entire company is about 25 people total.

What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

Our call center is open 6am - 6pm; shifts are eight hours and typically remain consistent. Our three shifts are: 6am - 2:30pm, 8am - 4:30pm, and 9:30am - 6pm.

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

Each employee is issued a desktop computer, two monitors, other computer accessories (headset, keyboard, etc.), and has access to any needed computer software programs and subscriptions (claims database, AllData, etc.).

What type of break room facility is provided?

There is an entire kitchen with a refrigerator, dishes, dishwasher, sink, free snacks and drinks, tables/chairs, and TV with cable. Additionally, there is a great path behind the office for walks that has picnic tables.

How many bays does your shop have?

Not applicable. Each employee is assigned a cubicle workstation.

How many repair orders do you average per month?

Each warranty administrator takes about 50 inbound calls per day, and makes approximately 25 outbound calls per day. When not on phone calls, there is paperwork to process.

What is your parts ordering process?

Not applicable.

No policy.

Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?

Our Response to COVID-19: ABS’ top priority is its employees. We stay up to date and implement all federal and local mandates. Among other safety precautions, we: provide masks, gloves, hand sanitizer, sanitizing wipes, and soap; encourage social distancing, have air purifiers throughout the office, and sanitize the office multiple times per day.

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

As customer service is our top priority, ABS provides customer service training. ABS encourages everyone who is eligible to pursue ASE certifications. We pay for ASE certification registration and testing, and even provide a $100.00 bonus for each test passed.

Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

ABS performs annual compensation reviews to ensure wages are in line with performance, the role, the market, etc. We also have an education assistance policy where professional development is supported.

Can you describe your performance review process?

Performance reviews are conducted twice per year - one mid-year and one end of year. Management reviews their direct reports, and direct reports have an opportunity to review their manager(s) and the company's executives, if desired. Managers meet one-on-one with each team member for their performance reviews.

What type of safety training is required?

Not applicable - desk job.

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

The Warranty Administrator team works closely together regardless of experience. Each person has their own personal expertise to share with everyone else.

How does your shop get involved with the local community?

Though never complete, ABS is in a good place of taking care of its employees as far as benefits and culture, and has recently started conversations about how to volunteer as a business.

Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

Not at this time, but a great idea to look into!

Where do you see the shop in five years?

In five years, we expect to grow in size and revenue, making a larger and larger footprint in the automotive aftermarket niche. The business has proven resilient and profitable as we were fortunate enough to grow since established in 2001, even during the 2020 pandemic.

Do you have an application form and how long does it typically take to complete?

No, we ask for a resume.

Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

Yes, we schedule a phone call with the candidate that is approximately 20 minutes.

What do your in-person interviews entail?

In-person interviews are approximately 2 hours. Candidates meet with the company's HR manager for about 30 minutes, the team manager for about 30 minutes, the call center manager for about 30 minutes, and perform a 15 minute assessment that consists of listening to and documenting a claim phone call on a computer.

Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?

We perform a background check.

Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?

Our assessment is about 15 minutes total and entails listening to a claim phone call while documenting various pieces of information into a Word document on the computer.

After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?

Approximately 1 - 2 weeks.

Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?

On average, approximately 2 - 3 weeks, depending on candidate's and company representatives' availability.

A Level Technician
A Level Technicians are highly skilled technicians that have strengths in their diagnostic and mechanical ability. This level of technician typically has many years of experience and education. We view an A Level Technician as the highest skilled technician in a shop
Pay Range: $45,760 - $45,761/year ($22.00 - $22.00/hr)

Our role, technically called an "Automotive Warranty Administrator", is also referred to as "tech" or "technician" internally and follows a similar A, B, or C Automotive Technician structure since the Automotive Warranty Administrator role requires automotive experience. Our top-level warranty administrators with approximately 4+ years experience as a technician and/or service advisor start at $22.00/hour. Annual salary displayed based on 40 hours per week. Typically there are opportunities for overtime, if desired.

B Level Technician
B Level Technicians are skilled in mechanical repair and, while not their specialty, have some diagnostic skills. B Level Technicians generally have a fair amount of experience and can be trusted to handle most repairs.
Pay Range: $43,680 - $43,681/year ($21.00 - $21.00/hr)

Our role, technically called an "Automotive Warranty Administrator", is also referred to as "tech" or "technician" internally and follows a similar A, B, or C Automotive Technician structure since the Automotive Warranty Administrator role requires automotive experience. Our mid-level warranty administrators with approximately 2 - 4 years experience as a technician and/or service advisor start at $21.00/hour. Annual salary displayed based on 40 hours per week. Typically there are opportunities for overtime, if desired.

C Level Technician
C Level Technicians are more of entry level technicians. C Level Technicians’ responsibilities typically include basic maintenance, alignments, brake and suspension work, along with other base level repairs.
Pay Range: $41,600 - $41,601/year ($20.00 - $20.00/hr)

Our role technically, called an "Automotive Warranty Administrator", is also referred to as "tech" or "technician" internally and follows a similar A, B, or C Automotive Technician structure since the Automotive Warranty Administrator role requires automotive experience. Our entry-level warranty administrators with approximately 1 - 2 years experience as a technician and/or service advisor start at $20.00/hour. Annual salary displayed based on 40 hours per week. Typically there are opportunities for overtime, if desired.

ABS offers medical insurance through United Healthcare upon hire and covers up to $500.00 or 75%, whichever is greater, of the monthly premium for the health, dental, and vision premiums. The health insurance premiums are age-based and quotes for any out of pocket amounts are gladly provided once in the interview process.

Sick Leave Offered
Full-time employees have 48 hours of Sick time beginning at the first of each calendar year. Each year, up to 48 hours of Sick time can be carried over to the next year, however, Sick time is capped at 96 hours. Sick time is forfeited upon employment termination.
Vacation Offered
• Beginning at the first of each year and upon hire, employees with less than 4 years of employment will accrue 3 hours of Vacation/Personal time per pay period and can go into the negative. Any unused time can be carried over to the next year, however accrued time will cap at 72 hours. • On the first of the calendar year following employees’ 4th year of employment, employees will accrue 4.66667 hours of Vacation/Personal time per pay period and can go into the negative. Any unused time can be carried over to the next year, accrued time will cap at 112 hours.
