Our Story Continental Automotive Group goes back half a century when Continental Cars, Inc. was incorporated in August of 1966. A lot of things have changed in the many years that have passed since then, but our dedication to quality vehicles, quality car service, and fair, competitive prices have remained the same. Today we own and operate multiple Austin car dealerships including Austin INFINITI, Austin Subaru, First Texas Honda, and Mercedes-Benz of Austin. We’re one of the only family-owned and operated dealerships left in the greater Austin area, and while we might have gotten bigger we’re happy to say we’ve kept the cordial, intimate feel of a family dealership going to this day. We are in the process of updating our shop to have A/C. Stay tuned!

What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

Express has 13-18 people working in 2-person teams. We have 27-30 Main Line techs and are counting!

What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

Service Hours: - Monday - Saturday: 7:00 am - 7:00 pm - Sunday: 9:00 am - 4:00 pm

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

Our shop provides: - All OEM Specialty tools - Multiple AC Machines per refrigerant type - Multiple on car brake lathes - Hydraulic press - 2 automatic parts washers - 2 hand parts washers - 2 tire machines - 2 wheel balancers - Hunter Hawkeye alignment system - 9 Subaru laptops

What type of break room facility is provided?

We have multiple break rooms onsite, one specifically for techs and a general break room as well. We also offer a free full-service coffee bar available for employees with espresso machines, soft drinks, snacks, etc..

How many bays does your shop have?

Currently, we have 43 racks with construction underway for 26 more!

How many repair orders do you average per month?

We average around 3,600 RO's per month

What is your parts ordering process?

We order parts for techs digitally.

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

CAG encourages and reimburses furthering education for technicians including ASE certifications, online modules, and technology and manufacturer training.

Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

Paid training is only the start at CAG. Our wide range of dealerships offer various paths to grow through apprenticeships and express tech positions to Certified and Master technicians.

Can you describe your performance review process?

We have annual performance reviews where we can discuss techs’ strengths and opportunities for improvement in addition to discussing where they would like to grow in terms of their career path within our company.

What type of safety training is required?

We have a dedicated onsite safety and maintenance team and offer trainings on a regular basis.

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

We have a robust apprenticeship program. We partner with ACC through Subaru-U as well as other local trade schools at the high school and college levels. Typically a green technician will enter into our shop as an Express technician where they will learn the ropes of working in an automotive retailer like basic processes, software, paperwork, warranty policies, etc. From there we will link them with a Mentor with whom they have a good rapport and we make sure the personalities match and appropriate skill levels are achieved before apprenticeship. We do require 1 ASE test to be passed before moving to an apprenticeship. Length of time in the apprenticeship program depends solely on the individual as well as the mentor's evaluation of progress. We review this quarterly.

How does your shop get involved with the local community?

From the people and pets of Austin, to the outdoor landscapes that we all enjoy, CAG is committed to positively impacting our local communities. Over the years, CAG has donated millions of dollars in support of bettering Texas communities. Apart from the monetary donations, many of the people who work to keep CAG a great place day-to-day also donate their time volunteering around town, too! Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

Pre-COVID we were actively working with Georgetown ISD, Pflugerville ISD. Soon we hope to add Austin ISD schools. We are heavily involved with the Automotive program at Austin Community College and installed the Subaru U program into their curriculum as well as launching a Scholarship program with the college.

Where do you see the shop in five years?

We aim to give our techs all of the tools they need to be successful and continue growing and rising within the company. We hope in five years to maintain that goal of promoting our current techs while also bringing in a new generation of young techs for our team to mentor and encourage.

Do you have an application form and how long does it typically take to complete?

First things first, we want to get to know you better! The application is a great introduction for us to get to know more about your employment history and why CAG interests you. Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

Once our applicant tracking team has an opportunity to review your application and believes you might be a match for that position, we want to speak with you one on one regarding your qualifications and career interests. Our structured phone interviews allow us to get to know more about your skills and what you are hoping to get out of this position. This is also a great opportunity for you to ask us any questions you might have about the hiring process, the job, or our company!

What do your in-person interviews entail?

Our next step would be a virtual or in person interview known as a Top Grade. In this structured interview, we use the same interview format for every applicant for every role at CAG. Our process is thorough, but it’s also meant to be informative and not only an opportunity for us to get to know you, but for you to see if this is a place that you can find yourself growing long-term. In this interview you will meet members of our HR team, as well as managers from the department you are applying with.

Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?

All applicants are required to complete a set of pre-employment forms which include a drug test as well as obtaining a driving record. It’s important to note that for most positions at CAG, we do require at least one year of driving record history on file. We will also complete a background check and request for you to send us professional references that we can contact later in the process.

Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?

One of the more unique things about our hiring process is our Cultural Fit Day! This step in the process has you coming into our dealerships and shadowing the position you are being considered for. You will get to meet your potential future team, our management, and spend a day in the life of this role. This is a chance for not only us to see how you fit into the position, but also for you to see if this is something you see yourself doing. The Cultural Fit Day is a paid day! Even if you or our team decides that this isn’t a fit for you, you will still be compensated.

After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?

After your Top Grade interview, you will receive an update from the applicant tracking team the following day. We aim to keep our applicants updated as quickly as possible whether or not we decide to proceed.

Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?

Ultimately, our hiring process timeline boils down to the availability of our applicants and their references. Our goal is to conduct all interviews within the same week, but if there is any scheduling restriction we have to work with, we can be flexible to make sure our applicants are comfortable navigating through the hiring process with a timeline that works for them as well. At CAG, we are always looking for the right fit, not how quickly we can fill a position!
