Under The Hood

Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

Shop is heated and air conditioned.

What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

4-5 person teams.

What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

The shop is open 7am to 8pm. Shift times can vary by employee. Most employees work 4-5 day weeks depending on schedule.

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

Shop provides Hyundai technical shop tools. Employees can bring in their own tools. Additional tools are also available for purchase.

What type of break room facility is provided?

Breakroom with lunch tables, microwave, coffee machine and refrigerator is provided.

How many bays does your shop have?

16 bays.

How many repair orders do you average per month?

1500 average repair orders per month.

What is your parts ordering process?

Many parts are stored on hand at the dealership. Other special order parts can be ordered through the parts department.

What is your policy on side work?

No side work is permitted.

Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?

Asbury Automotive Group requires all new hires to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19.

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

Skills training courses are offered to technicians. Training is also paid for most positions. On-site training and online digital training programs are available. Educational reimbursement program is also offered for technicians.

Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

Our company offers a digital pathing tool program for employees to utilize. We believe in promoting from within.

Can you describe your performance review process?

Technician performance is continually monitored by management. Semi-annual performance reviews are summited for each technician by the Service Manager, noting progress and performance.

What type of safety training is required?

Virtual safety training is provided.

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

Many technicians start as apprentices. This means that they will be paired with a more experienced technician whom they will work alongside to learn and grow and advance their skills. The master tech and the apprentice tech will work together daily to ensure quality work and learning is being completed.

How does your shop get involved with the local community?

Arapahoe Hyundai strives itself on being involved in local communities and charities. We pride ourselves through our local partnerships with food banks, community assistance programs and food drives.

Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

We partner with local trade and tech schools to foster the importance of technical education.

Where do you see the shop in five years?

As the shop is continuing to grow, within the next 5 years, we anticipate dealership and shop construction that would allow us more shop room and bays to accommodate the demand in our services.

Do you have an application form and how long does it typically take to complete?

Yes, we provide an electronic application form. The application form takes about 10-15 minutes to complete. Once the application is completed the potential employee will then complete a Caliper Assessment which takes 15-20 minutes.

Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

No, in most cases, the employee is invited in for an in-person interview.

What do your in-person interviews entail?

In-person interviews typically occur at our dealership where the potential hire will sit down with multiple management personnel. Typically the Service Manager, Assistant Service Manager and/or the Fixed Operations Director is present for in-person interviews. A few basic questions are asked, including what the potential hire is looking for in the job, what hours and days he or she can work, and what he or she values in a job.

Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?

Yes. Background checks as well as drug screening and personality tests are required for each employee prior to hiring.

Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?

We preform a Caliper assessment on all new hires. This is a form of a personality test that allows us to learn more about the employees personality, work style, interests and more. This assessment also records problem solving skills and the employees ability to work with a team.

After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?

24 hours

Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?

48-72 hours

A Level Technician
A Level Technicians are highly skilled technicians that have strengths in their diagnostic and mechanical ability. This level of technician typically has many years of experience and education. We view an A Level Technician as the highest skilled technician in a shop
Pay Range: $80,000 - $100,000/year

Pay structure can vary based on skill level and certification. $10,000 sign on bonus for qualified A-Level technicians who are successfully onboarded and hired.

B Level Technician
B Level Technicians are skilled in mechanical repair and, while not their specialty, have some diagnostic skills. B Level Technicians generally have a fair amount of experience and can be trusted to handle most repairs.
Pay Range: $48,000 - $60,000/year

Pay structure can vary based on skill level and certification. $10,000 sign on bonus for qualified B-Level technicians who are successfully onboarded and hired.

C Level Technician
C Level Technicians are more of entry level technicians. C Level Technicians’ responsibilities typically include basic maintenance, alignments, brake and suspension work, along with other base level repairs.
Pay Range: $35,000 - $45,000/year

Pay structure can vary based on skill level and certification.

Lube Technician
Lube Technicians are entry level technicians that focus on routine maintenance such as oil changes, changing tires, and inspections.
Pay Range: $30,000 - $35,000/year

Pay structure can vary based on skill level and certification.

UnitedHealthcare is our current medical healthcare administrator. Employees have two medical options to choose from.
Dental Insurance Offered
Through Cigna Healthcare employees have a choice of two PPO Dental options.

What are some things about your techs that you're thankful for?

We are thankful for our techs positive personality and amazing sense of humor. While work can be stressful at times for everyone, we are so thankful to have so many humorous and light hearted techs on our team. While they still arrive to work every day to get the job done, they also come ready to laugh with one another and build friendships with one another. It just takes one walk through the shop and you will be laughing and smiling from ear to ear. We are thankful for the positivity that these team members bring to Arapahoe Hyundai!

What are some things you wish the general public or kids about to graduate high school knew about being a tech?

We wish the general public knew how rewarding it is to be a technician. Being a technician can be one of the most fulfilling career paths to take. The sense of accomplishment when you finally fix a problem or an issue on a car that seemed to be unsolvable or unfixable is truly amazing! It gives you the drive to keep going, and wanting to come back into work the next day.
