Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?
We have heat throughout all of our shops and BIG ASS fans!
What is the size of the team I’d be working with?
Ford shop has 27 technicians. Quick Lane has 22 technicians. Chrysler shop has 13 technicians. Truck shop has 13 technicians. Mobile service vans have 10 technicians. We have a lot of management support- the Ford, Chrysler and FordPro truck shop have 2 shop foremans each. Each shop has its own manager to lead the department. Each shop also has its own parts support located in the shop.
What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?
Department hours are 7:30am-6:00pm. Technicians work 7:30am-5pm.
What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?
All specialty tools as well as tire tools are provided. We have all basic amenities for everyday use.
What type of break room facility is provided?
We have a technician break room with free soda, coffee, Bevi machine and free ice cream that is so good! All flavors!
How many bays does your shop have?
54 service bay in the Ford shop. 15 bays in the Chrysler shop. 26 bays in the Ford Pro truck shop.
How many repair orders do you average per month?
5,000 repair orders each month.
What is your parts ordering process?
Parts counter personnel are located inside each shop for convenience to the technicians. We run 17 parts routes across Georgia and prioritize shop parts for every job.
What is your policy on side work?
As long as you have an active repair order and it is done after hours.
Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?
We have an awesome on-site accessories shop (we offer great discounts to our employees!) Our employee atmosphere is top notch!
Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?
Yes, we have multiple training opportunities. Our Quick Lane department builds the basics and fundamentals and helps build character. We offer a prestigious Technician Development program (TDP) with an on-site instructor that has 20 years Senior Master Training. During your training you will be supplied tools by the shops. We supply all graduates of our TDP with a complete set of FREE TOOLS. When you graduate from our TDP you will receive a free tool box with tools chosen for the technicians job requirements. We also pay for any manufacturers training requirements off-site.
Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?
Our goal is to continue regular conversations about career opportunities. We want to walk hand in hand with the technician and understand where his/her passion lies. We will support the individual and push them to meet their personal career goals at Akins. We have the volume of repair orders to keep technicians busy every day and therefore there is work in every field to hone the skills of the techs.
Can you describe your performance review process?
We have an annual performance review evaluation the first quarter of each year. This process is to provide feedback for both the technician and supervisor to align goals.
What type of safety training is required?
Annual safety training is required. We have inspectors that verify our equipment is up to code.
Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

How does your shop get involved with the local community?
We are actively involved with several local schools in and around our dealership. We recruit on a monthly basis at 15 local schools including high schools, college and tech schools. We even find ourselves at the local middle school talking about the technician career!
Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?
Do we ever! We support both financially and as a local mentor to students around our community. Students in these schools get to know our management and we regularly provide tours to let them experience our shops.
Is there anything else you’d like to mention about career development and community?
We are the leaders in career development with our own TDP program and our community. We are a very large organization but we have the feeling of a small close family.
Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?
Yes, we will call to verify that the person is still interested in the position and when they are available for an interview.
What do your in-person interviews entail?
We ask questions about their driving record (must be clean). We ask about previous employment. We also ask several detailed questions about their career path.
Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?
Yes, we perform background checks and drug screening.
Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?
We ask about previous experiences related to the job they are seeking. We do simulation questions for real world in shop scenarios.
After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?
It will take 5-7 business days.
Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?
The hiring process takes approximately one week.
Service Advisor
Pay Range: $60.00 - $150.00/year
Paid 10%-10.5% of total gross parts and labor.
Lube Technician
Pay Range: $15.00 - $15.00/hour
Flat rate technician pay.
Collision Technician - A Level
Pay Range: $22.00 - $25.00/hour
Variable labor rates. (Mechanical, frame, warranty, aluminum)
Collision Technician - B Level
Pay Range: $19.00 - $22.00/year
Variable labor rates. (Mechanical, frame, warranty, aluminum)
Student Tech / Apprentice
Pay Range: $18.00 - $20.00/year
The student gets paid $850 week guarantee unless they flag more hours.
A Level Technician
Pay Range: $35.00 - $50.00/hour
Flat rate technician pay. Pay based on experience and certifications
C Level Technician
Pay Range: $15.00 - $15.00/hour
Flat rate technician pay. Pay based on experience and certifications
B Level Technician
Pay Range: $18.00 - $22.00/hour
