ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Mechanical: Examining and diagnosing vehicles to determine wear and extent of damage and/or malfunction and performing work specified on the repair order with efficiency and in accordance with dealership and / or factory standards. Conferring with customers or service advisors to obtain descriptions of vehicle or equipment problems, and to discuss work to be performed and future repair requirements. Communicating directly with the Location Manager so that customers can be informed if any additional service is needed; providing an estimate of time needed for additional repairs. Repairing or replacing all parts of customer vehicle including wheels, axles, frames, conditioners and servicing components such as compressors, condensers, and controls; and testing electronic computer components in vehicles to ensure that they are working properly, as needed. Inspecting and testing all internal vehicles, new and those eligible for reconditioning to assess damage or wear, recording findings so that necessary repairs can be made. Run Mitchell estimates and assign repair work to appropriate technician / location by skill set, need and capacity. Testing and adjusting repaired systems to meet manufacturers’ performance specifications. Test-driving vehicles and testing components and systems using computerized diagnostic equipment. Ensuring that the shop is in excellent condition in regard to cleanliness, safety and equipment condition; conducting periodic spot checks to maintain high-quality service. Supervisory: Serve as in-house expert in diagnosing mechanical problems with vehicles, being available to consult on issues at all locations. Create, and refine (as needed) standards to create a consistent inspection process identifying what is acceptable for an A&J vehicle (i.e., tread depth, seepage vs. leek, etc.). Training of technicians at all locations for mobility and mechanical inspections, repairs and installs. Assisting technicians with their skills, providing technical support when needed and monitoring performance and productivity. This will be a continual occurrence requiring monthly visits to remote shops. Provide in-person and remote mentorship to existing and new technicians, encouraging and guiding further development of their skillsets. Oversee apprenticeship program. Recruiting, scheduling, training and evaluating apprentice(s). Main source of recruiting efforts. Work with marketing department to actively promote and recruit mobility and automotive technicians for each location always keeping funnel filled. Participate as a lead in monthly technician meetings, presenting topics as assigned by Location Manager Lead. Administrative: Work with Operations Team to identify opportunities for efficiency and of improvement. Responsible for central scheduling of 6-month checks, making monthly reminder calls for multiple locations. Monitor safety programs by location; ensuring tools are properly maintained. Conduct mobility and service inventory at least one time / year for each location.
