Automotive Technician
Position & Description
This position is responsible to diagnose and repair vehicles that are donated to ChangingGears and will be used in our Purchase Program or used for fundraising. They may also assist in repairing vehicles owned by clients who are accessing our Repair Program. This is a unique position that will allow you to use your skills and experience to help people have access to affordable and reliable transportation.
Job Responsibilities
Diagnose & Repair Vehicles
• Complete full, accurate, and honest vehicle assessments that prioritize safety and reliability.
• Complete repairs on a wide variety of vehicles (years, makes, models, and conditions)
• Perform quality work in a timely manner.
• Work as part of a team to troubleshoot client concerns quickly and effectively.
• Effectively and compassionately communicate repair needs with our clients.
• Follow and promote our high standards of safety, cleanliness and organization.
Other Responsibilities
• Maintain clean and safe service area.
• Assist Director of Vehicle Operations when necessary.
• Assist with picking up donated vehicles when necessary.
• Assist with Technician Training program when necessary.
• Attend client celebrations for ChangingGears and CityLink Center.
Job Qualifications
• Passionate about the mission and vision of ChangingGears.
• Conduct that is consistent with the values of ChangingGears.
• Positive attitude and desire to serve our clients.
• Formal automotive technician training preferred.
• 3+ years of experience as an automotive technician preferred.
• ASE certifications preferred but not necessary.
• Capable of diagnosing and repairing all makes/models of vehicles.
• Provide your own tools. Shop equipment will be provided by ChangingGears.
• Knowledge of electronic scan tools & test equipment.
• Aptitude for leaning additional skills and processes.
• Professional appearance and strong communication skills.
• Desire for long term career advancement.
• Basic computer skills, specifically ability to use Mitchell 1 ProDemand, ShopBoss, Google Apps, and communicate via email.
• Pass pre-employment drug screening and background check.
• Valid drivers license with no SR-22 requirement.
• High School Diploma or G.E.D.
• No more than two moving violations and/or at-fault accidents on driving record within the past two years.
• No drug or alcohol related convictions on driving record within the past 5 years (DUI/DWI).
Physical Requirements
• Able to lift up to 50 pounds to chest level.
• Have full body mobility and be able to twist, turn, bend at the waist, and squat.
• Be able to work with tools on vehicles lifted above their head.
• Work in tight spaces as dictated by the vehicle’s needed repair.
• Have the needed dexterity in order to efficiently use hand tools.
• Be able to walk/stand for the majority of their workday.
• Drive manual transmission vehicles.
• Willing to work in extreme weather and temperature conditions.
Time Commitment
• 40 hours per week
• Hours are generally Monday through Friday between 8am and 5pm
Compensation & Benefits
• $20 to $40 per hour based on experience level
