Luckily for this customer, Volkswagen created EV batteries where every component can be replaced if damaged. Instead of a $20K+ battery replacement after running over debris in the road, replacing the lower case assembly only costs <$8K.
Additional monitors have been installed in all shops across the Tom wood group allowing us to share statistics, upcoming events and updates from HR so all technicians can easily stay informed.
Top Shop Challenge: Did your shop do any team events for the holidays?
We continue our Christmas traditions of a Secret Santa gift exchange, catered lunch (this year was Italian), and rewarding our employee's with Visa Gift Cards (amount varies based on time with the company). We appreciate everyone's hard work in 2023 and look forward to an exciting 2024!
Top Shop Challenge: Over the last several years, we’ve seen huge improvements in benefits and perks for technicians. Describe any non-standard benefits/perks you added recently or plan to add next year.
Health insurance and PTO/Vacation time are now available at time of hire and no longer have a 90 day waiting period.
Our shop is all in on the future of EV repair. As a VW authorized battery repair center we have all of the tools and training need to safely open high-voltage batteries for repair or component replacement. Volkswagen has designed battery packs in EVs to be modular and relatively easy to repair unlike some other manufacturers. This helps our EVs be more affordable over their lifetime due to individual cell module replacement being an alternative repair to replacing an entire battery assembly.
Top Shop Challenge: Industry surveys show most shops don't do a great job with onboarding new employees. What can a new technician expect during their first week at your shop?
The Wood group believes in preparing new hires for their first days on the job. The process starts before their first day with contact from our HR team to start enrolling them in ADP and time keeping systems. On their first day Technicians and Advisors spend the morning at our Corporate Office learn about the company, recieving all of their neccisary log-in credentials, and even going through a training session with our DMS and Inspection software. This preparation allows New Hires to arrive at their store and immediately be able to get comfortable and start working without walking in blind to our systems and proccesses. Throughout the remainder of their first week Technicians or Advisors are paired up with a veteran team member so they continue to learn our systems and expectations. The Wood group is not somewhere in which new hires are thrown into the deep end and expected to swim immediately.
