Under The Hood

Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

Our shop is heated quite well, and air conditioning is in the budget for 2025.

What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

Currently 5 technicians with 1 apprentice with 2 in Express.

What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

7:30a - 5p Monday through Friday and 8a to 12p on Saturdays. Main shop technicians work every other Saturday or every 3rd.

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

Bearing press, strut loader, wheel balancer, tire mounter, HD alignment rack, MAC scanner, 15,000lb HD lift and a set of portable lifts (60k lbs).

What type of break room facility is provided?

Small kitchen is available.

How many bays does your shop have?

We are a 14-bay shop including Express. There are also 8 flats available. The shop also has exterior garage doors for easier access.

How many repair orders do you average per month?

550 - 600.

What is your parts ordering process?

Everything is through X-time software.

What is your policy on side work?

Side work is discouraged however working on family vehicles or neighbor's car after hours or during lunch is o.k.

Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?

Family environment with some very long term employees. Average technician tenure is roughly 3+ years. Both Advisors have been here 7 and 11 years, one of which was a Level 3 technician.

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

We actively send technicians to training classes.

Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

York Automotive Group prefers to promote from within in all areas of the dealership.

Can you describe your performance review process?

Performance reviews are completed yearly. Fair unbiased evaluations with clear paths forward for improvement. We promote a learning environment in the Service Department.

What type of safety training is required?

Standard training through our HR department.

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

We have an active apprenticeship program in place where a new technician gets 60 days with a master technician to hone in on the jobs that will make him/her successful when switching over to flat rate. New flat rate technicians have full access to senior technicians to continue their learning curve.

How does your shop get involved with the local community?

We have a Career Day with the local Chamber of Commerce that we participate in yearly and a local high school that brings in their shop class students for a look into dealership operations.

Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

Our previous shop foreman is now a shop class teacher at a local high school and we have hired one do far with another one currently in the process for hire.

Is there anything else you’d like to mention about career development and community?

Not at this time.

Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

Sometimes.

What do your in-person interviews entail?

Interview for the applicant as well as the dealership. Trading of information to ensure both applicant and dealership get to know one another.

Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?

Background screenings and a one-time drug screening at time of hire. We do not random drug screen after an applicant has been hired unless there is a personal injury or vehicle accident.

Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?

No. Reference checks from the interview process are the only process in place.

After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?

That usually happens within 24 hours.

Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?

Usually not more than 3-5 days.

Is there anything else you’d like to mention about your hiring process?

All applicants are welcome to walk through the shop and interview technicians at their leisure.

A Level Technician Pay Range: $34.00 - $38.00/hour

Hours bonus paid weekly from 45 hours to 70 hours.

B Level Technician Pay Range: $30.00 - $34.00/hour

Hours bonus paid weekly from 45 hours to 70 hours.

C Level Technician Pay Range: $26.00 - $30.00/hour

Hours bonus paid weekly from 45 hours to 70 hours.

Our policy covers routine eye exams and other procedures, and provides specified dollar amounts or discounts for the purchase of eyeglasses and contact lenses. This benefit is offered on a voluntary basis.
Retirement Plan Offered
York Automotive offers a competitive retirement plan benefit. Employees that participate in our 401(k) through Vanguard will receive a matching contribution from York Automotive. Employees will receive a 100% match on the first 3%, and a 50% match on the next 2%. An employee contributing 5% will receive a 4% match from the company. This match is 100% vested from day one of participation in the plan.
Sick Leave Offered
All employees are given 40 hours of Personal Time Off (PTO) after 90 days of employment. The annual 40-hour allotment resets each year on the anniversary of your hire date.
Vacation Offered
Vacation is offered after 1 year of employment. 1 year- 5 days 3 years- 10 days 5 years- 15 days **Tier based, not accumulated. Vacation time is issued on an anniversary date basis.
Paid Holidays Offered
Christmas, Thanksgiving, New Years Day, 4th of July, Memorial Day, and Labor Day when they fall on a working day.

Short-term Disability, Long-term Disability, and Critical Illness coverage can be purchased on a voluntary basis through Guardian Insurance.
