Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?
Yes, the shop is heated. Currently not equipped with air conditioning, although we have multiple port-a-cools.
What is the size of the team I’d be working with?
We have myself, two writers, two parts employees, and 6 technicians.
What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?
M,W,F 7:30am-5:00pm Tues and Thurs 7:30am-7:00pm All shifts include lunch from 12:00pm-1:00pm
What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?
New Hunter tire machine, tire balancer, Hunter alignment rack, Hunter brake lathe, BG fluid service machines, and much more.
What type of break room facility is provided?
We offer a gathering room with a refrigerator, microwave, and seating
How many bays does your shop have?
10 (including alignment rack)
How many repair orders do you average per month?
400
What is your parts ordering process?
Typically stay with General Motors if possible. Our parts department does a really nice job getting parts here quickly and efficiently.
What is your policy on side work?
Have no problem with it as long as it doesn't become priority over customers vehicles
Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?
Everyone here gets along and works as a team. All of the technicians are willing to jump in and help out when needed as well as managers.
Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?
All employees have access to all the classes that General Motors offers. If there are more outside of General Motors, we can certainly discuss options.
Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?
Some of my main line techs started here as lube technicians and moved their way up. We do not shy away from career growth as a company.
Can you describe your performance review process?
Performance review is based on proficiency, and efficiency. Like any other shop, we discuss goals weekly. If these goals are not met, we discuss what we can do to achieve these goals.
What type of safety training is required?
General Motors provides fundamental training.
Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?
Our senior technicians are happy to train/mentor younger technicians. They will be available to answer questions, and help with repairs when time permits
How does your shop get involved with the local community?
We sponsor multiple festivals, racetracks, and local athletics.
Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?
Not at this time
Where do you see the shop in five years?
I see this shop being the top mechanical facility in the valley. Our customer service is top of the line and we are proud of that.
Do you have an application form and how long does it typically take to complete?
Yes, it takes 5-10min minutes to complete

No, we prefer to do in-person interviews
What do your in-person interviews entail?
Getting to know each other, and reviewing previous jobs, experiences, and skill set. We also want to know the tech's career goals

No formal skill assessment. Assessment is done through the interview process

- Retirement Plan Offered
- York Automotive offers a competitive retirement plan benefit. Employees that participate in our 401(k) through Vanguard will receive a matching contribution from York Automotive. Employees will receive a 100% match on the first 3%, and a 50% match on the next 2%. An employee contributing 5% will receive a 4% match from the company. This match is 100% vested from day one of participation in the plan.
- Sick Leave Offered
- All employees are given 40 hours of Personal Time Off (PTO) after 90 days of employment. The annual 40-hour allotment resets each year on the anniversary of your hire date.

- Vacation is offered after 1 year of employment. 1 year- 5 days 3 years- 10 days 5 years- 15 days **Tier based, not accumulated. Vacation time is issued on an anniversary date basis.
