About Us

Toyota of Portland is located in the heart of Portland, OR right off Interstate 5 and 84. We have been a part of the O'Brien Auto Group family since 2015. Our shop has 10 Express Bays and 40 Flat Rate bays with an average of 7,000 hours per month in our shop. We team with our local Toyota TXM Program to train our hourly technicians to become Flat Rate.

What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

Technicians are paid on individual flagged hours not team structure. Most work is done individually but other technicians will assist when needed and time permits. We currently have 30 technicians with mixed levels of qualifications.

What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

Monday - Saturday 7:00am - 6:00pm Shifts can vary based on business needs

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

Toyota of Portland offers all Specialty Tools for shop usage. Toyota of Portland offers entry level tools for Hourly Technicians however all Technicians are encouraged to create their own supply of tools.

What type of break room facility is provided?

Toyota of Portland offers a lunchroom off the shop. We request all employees to take a meal period away from their bay.

What is your parts ordering process?

Technicians order parts with Parts Back Counter located right off the main shop next to the service drive. All parts will be received as soon as possible with most coming over night.

Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

We ask all Technicians to continue their education, be it recertifying current certs or taking new certs. Our goal is to continue growth and get all technicians to Master certification

What type of safety training is required?

No safety training required

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

We team our Master Technicians with our beginner Flat Rate Technicians. The Master technician does receive a bonus for mentoring.

How does your shop get involved with the local community?

Toyota of Portland has been and continues to give back to their community by supporting local charities and schools.

Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

Toyota of Portland has a good relationship with numerous Tech Schools and local high schools teaming to show the opportunity for growth in our industry.

Where do you see the shop in five years?

Continued growth with more hours based off our trends and Open Service Drive.

Do you have an application form and how long does it typically take to complete?

Toyota of Portland accepts applications online on our electronic recruiting site. Normally around 72 hours however process time can vary based on Background and Motor Vehicle Reporting processes

Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

Yes, our Service Manager/Drive Manager will call each applicant to determine qualifiers before scheduling an in-person interview.

What do your in-person interviews entail?

Conversations regarding the position with the Service Manager, background in the industry and future goals discussed. A walk of our shop and an interview with the General Manager

Motor Vehicle Report (3 year look back) & Background Check (7 year look back)

No

This can vary depending on the timing and applicant count

Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?

1 week, but more time can be offered if notice period is needed.

Motor Vehicle Reports review any moving violation within the last 3 years and our Insurance company is extremely strict.

A Level Technician
A Level Technicians are highly skilled technicians that have strengths in their diagnostic and mechanical ability. This level of technician typically has many years of experience and education. We view an A Level Technician as the highest skilled technician in a shop
Pay Range: $40,000 - $150,000/year ($19.23 - $72.12/hr)

Flat Rate / Hourly top - $39.00 + Years of Service with Toyota factory and Toyota of Portland Your rate will be based on experience, ASEs, certifications, and tenure

B Level Technician
B Level Technicians are skilled in mechanical repair and, while not their specialty, have some diagnostic skills. B Level Technicians generally have a fair amount of experience and can be trusted to handle most repairs.
Pay Range: $35,000 - $75,000/year

Varied based on flagged hours, based on experience, ASEs, certifications, and tenure

Service Advisor
Service Advisors are primarily customer focused and, as one of the faces of the shop, they are critical in keeping customers happy. Service Advisors are frequently focused on taking customer calls, relaying information to technicians, and selling repair jobs. Both technical and sales experience are helpful for this position.
Pay Range: $45,000 - $150,000/year ($21.63 - $72.12/hr)

Advisors new to the drive and writing can be on the lower end of the list above, however with the Open Service Drive there are abilities to make $100,000+ a year. Pay is a base salary + commission
