What is the size of the team I’d be working with?
The teams include 1 lead tech with 7 techs. Each team has 1 parts person and 1 runner.
What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?
Our shop is open 7-6 Monday-Friday, 7-4 Saturday.
What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?
Our Express Technicians are provided all tools necessary to do their daily jobs, including specialty tools when needed. Technicians in our main shop have specialty tools provided and bring their own tools. We provide uniforms as well as a $75 reimbursement for steel toe work shoes.
What type of break room facility is provided?
The break room is located upstairs from the shop and includes a locker room and shower room for technicians.
How many bays does your shop have?
46 Bays 5 are Express Bays
How many repair orders do you average per month?
We average 4,800 ROs per month; typically doing 214 per day.
What is your parts ordering process?
Our technicians work directly with our parts department to ensure parts get stocked and ordered in a reasonable time frame. If the part is in stock, the parts peron in the team will get the part, if not it will be ordered and usually takes 1-2 days for the part to get delivered.
What is your policy on side work?
We are a union shop and accommodate to the union regulations and rules for side work.
Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?
Our technicians are provided state-of-the-art equipment and work in a comfortable, modern shop. We have a strong community and fun work environment. Walser offers many employee focused events and at Walser Toyota we provide even more, including Saturday Lunches, Fruit Friday, celebrations for birthdays and anniversaries, golf outings and more!
Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?
We believe that a formal education has a positive impact on everyone’s contribution to the company, and we support that by providing financial reimbursements for approved courses. Walser offers paid training programs for all of our technicians so that you can get manufacturer certified and get paid while you do it. Walser Toyota exclusively offers the T-10 certification.
Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?
Walser has a team that's focused entirely on growth and career pathing. We have concrete plans for everyone, from lube techs, light duty, journeymen, and advanced diagnosis technicians and more. Whether you want to become a master tech or even run the entire service drive, we'll show you how it can happen.
Can you describe your performance review process?
Monthly reviews go over proficiencies, training, and job performance so you know exactly how you're doing and how to improve. Our Performance Review Process is evaluated by the direct report of the employee. This may the Team Lead, Service Manager and/or Senior Service Manager. Every tech has at least 2 points of contact at Toyota.
What type of safety training is required?
All of our safety training is online; it is completed through Dealer Daily (Toyota partnering website) as well as ADP.
Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?
Our mentoring process is done for technicians of all ages. Mentoring and specific training depends on position, but generally includes 1 to 3 weeks of shadowing and training with a shop foreman or team lead and online training courses (Toyota ASE).
How does your shop get involved with the local community?
The Walser Foundation provides grants to community programs and offers volunteer opportunities for all of our employees to take part in and give back (and have some fun!).
Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?
Our recruiting department partners with local and non-local schools and attends career fairs and hiring events specifically for technicians.
Is there anything else you’d like to mention about career development and community?
We're proud to have very little turnover in our shop and provide extensive career pathing and growth for all of our employees. Our Express shop works with the TXM process (2-person process).
Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?
Yes, we do perform an initial 15-minute phone screen as part of the interview process.
What do your in-person interviews entail?
The hiring manager shares expectations and details about the role. The candidate and the hiring manager will review work and education experience. The interviewer will ask skill and ability questions. There will be an overview about the company, culture, and benefits. We make sure to cover the candidates career goals and aspirations. There will be time to ask any questions and discuss next steps.
Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?
Walser Automotive Group performs a background check for every candidate as part of the company's Pre-Employment Policy.
Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?
No we do not, but we do assess education, accreditations, and certifications (OEM and ASE).
After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?
After an interview is conducted the candidate should know an answer within one week.
Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?
The entire process should take no more than two weeks.

Lube Technician
Pay Range: $16.60 - $16.60/hour
Hourly rate plus additional incentive opportunities.
Semi-Skilled Technician
Pay Range: $18.90 - $24.00/hour
Minimum guaranteed rate for every hour worked. Additional earning opportunity paid on hours produced.
Light Duty Technician
Pay Range: $19.90 - $25.00/hour
Minimum guaranteed rate for every hour worked. Additional earning opportunity paid on hours produced.
Journeyperson
Pay Range: $28.20 - $38.00/hour
Minimum guaranteed rate for every hour worked. Additional earning opportunity paid on hours produced.
Heavy Duty Technician
Pay Range: $28.85 - $39.30/hour
Minimum guaranteed rate for every hour worked. Additional earning opportunity paid on hours produced.
Advanced Diagnostic Technician
Pay Range: $30.60 - $40.00/hour
Minimum guaranteed rate for every hour worked. Additional earning opportunity paid on hours produced.

- Walser provides medical insurance coverage through Medica. We offer 3 different plan options for paying for care, along with 3 coverage networks for those who you visit for care. The 3 medical plan options are as follows: $1000 Co-Pay Plan, $2800 HDHP Plan, or $5950 HDHP Plan. Medica coverage also includes the Virtualcare benefit through Amwell at no additional cost.

- Walser provides dental insurance coverage through Delta Dental of MN. We offer 2 different plan options—a base plan and a buy up plan— to ensure that you get the dental care that is most convenient and cost-effective for you.
- Vision Insurance Offered
- Walser provides a vision discount plan through EyeMed. This plan offers discounts on lenses, frames, contacts and laser vision correction. Annual eye exams are covered as preventative under all of Walser’s group medical plans.
- Retirement Plan Offered
- Walser offers a retirement savings plan that is managed by Securian Financial. We offer a traditional 401(k) and a Roth 401(k). All new hire or re-hired employees will be automatically enrolled in the plan at 5% of your base salary as of the 1st of the month following one month of employment.

- Walser offers Voluntary Short-Term Disability and Long-Term Disability plans for employees. Disability benefits provide you with paycheck protection in the event you are unable to work due to a non-work related sickness or injury. The benefit amount for Short Term Disability is 60% of your pre-disability weekly earnings; up to the plan's maximum weekly benefit of $1,000. The benefit amount for Long Term Disability is 60% of your pre-disability monthly earnings; up to the plan's maximum monthly benefit of $5,000.
