Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

The shop is heated & there is a large industrial fan for the hot days.

What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

You will be working with 8 technicians, 1 lead technician, 1 service writer, & 1 service manager.

What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

Shop is open 24/7. Current openings: Tuesday - Saturday or Sunday - Thursday: 1st 6am - 230pm, 2nd 2pm - 1030 pm, 3rd 10 pm -630am

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

We provide all major tools for PM, brakes, and other major work. We also provide computers for diagnostic testing

What type of break room facility is provided?

There is a breakroom with a refrigerator, coffee pot, and microwave.

How many bays does your shop have?

4 tractor bays & 2 trailer bays.

How many repair orders do you average per month?

600 orders on average for all NFI owned equipment.

What is your parts ordering process?

We have service writers who are specialists in ordering parts during the shop's working hours.

What is your policy on side work?

We do not allow any side work to be performed on NFI property.

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

Yes, we offer ASE Certification reimbursement and provide any training materials needed. We also have one on one mentoring with our seasoned technicians to help you develop your skills.

Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

We are always promoting from within, whether it is to become a lead technician or become part of management.

Can you describe your performance review process?

Yearly reviews performed with the shop manager.

What type of safety training is required?

Monthly Safety training covering all six OHSA-required subjects and then six more NFI specific.

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

We have several experienced technicians who are very good at sharing their knowledge and offer on-the-job training as needed.

How does your shop get involved with the local community?

Our shops try to be involved with any local businesses and our local transportation terminals for celebrations.

Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

We often partner up with local high schools and tech schools for presentations and join our apprenticeship and co-op programs. We want to increase our relationships with local talent.

Where do you see the shop in five years?

We will continue to be here servicing our fleet and developing our techs.

Do you have an application form and how long does it typically take to complete?

Yes, it typically takes 3-5 minutes to complete.

Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

Yes, we connect you with a recruiter before connecting you with the service manager.

What do your in-person interviews entail?

The service manager will ask different questions regarding your experience and skill levels in handling different situations and tasks.

Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?

Yes, we perform background checks and drug screening before hiring. We do look at every candidate on an individual basis. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or veteran status. Federal law requires employers to provide reasonable accommodation to qualified individuals with disabilities.

Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?

We don't usually have a written skills assessment.

After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?

Typically, it will take anywhere from 24-48 hours.

Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?

Typically it will take 19 days based on our experience, for the candidate to give notice. It can be quicker if the candidate does not need 2 weeks' notice from their current employer

Is there anything else you’d like to mention about your hiring process?

We want to make sure you are comfortable during this process. That is why we have a recruiter and Service Manager work with you to ensure all your questions are answered and you are accommodated.

A Level Technician Pay Range: $36.00 - $40.00/hour

Pay will be determined by experience and certifications Sign-on Bonus: $2,000

B Level Technician Pay Range: $24.00 - $35.00/hour

Pay will be determined by experience and certifications Sign-on Bonus: $2,000

Top Shop Challenge: What is a goal for 2024 that your shop has as it relates to employing technicians?

Our 2024 goal is to employ more technicians this month. Our techs have been very busy over the past few weeks and getting new techs in will help to work flow in the shop.

Our shops start off each shift with what needs to be worked on each day. This helps keep everything organized and make sure the day runs smoothly.

Top Shop Challenge: Industry surveys show most shops don't do a great job with onboarding new employees. What can a new technician expect during their first week at your shop?

During their first week the technician will get a tour of the shop, introduced to other techs, and most importantly be trained on the NFI way. We want to make sure all questions get answered and our techs get started on the right foot.
