Our shop is heated. We have proper ventilation as well as large shop doors allowing air travel/breeze for cooling the shop. *please note that our technician lounge is air conditioned/heated.

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

Lum’s Auto Center is a multidealer under one building (Toyota and Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep/Ram) We provide all special heavy duty and power tools for our employees to perform their job for both brands including several non-OEM special tools/equipment necessary to work on other makes and models. All main shop service technicians must furnish their own basic tools, Lums will provide the primary tool box and workbench. All tools, primary tool box/rolling cart and workbench are provided for Express Maintenance technicians. Employees are responsible for the proper maintenance and handling of all tools and equipment as well as their individual workspace.

What type of break room facility is provided?

Our facility is equipped with a locker room, tv, tables, fridge, coffee and the occasional snack bar.

How many bays does your shop have?

20 bays in the main shop and 4 bays in our express shop with lifts. We have a few additional bays with no lifts.

How many repair orders do you average per month?

About 1500 repair orders we average per month.

What is your parts ordering process?

Our parts department has 2 counters and 5 employees. We have a front counter for our customers and a back counter for our technicians. The ordering process starts though that back counter whether its walking in or virtually requesting parts from them.

What is your policy on side work?

No side work unless approved by manager.

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

We do, not only do we offer many opportunities through Mopar and Toyota. We also offer "degrees at work" which is something we have recently started so you have an opportunity to further your education in whatever you desire. That is provided to you at no charge thanks to Lum's Auto Center.

Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

We strive to push internal promotion. It is our goal to help our employees move up in our industry.

Can you describe your performance review process?

Performance reviews are important to us. Not only does it talk about what this individual excels at, it also shows the improvements we would like to see. Growth with individual goals is huge. It gives us an opportunity to see where our employees at not only physically but mentally and opens up topics of discussion for change.

What type of safety training is required?

E modules are what every new hire has to go through. Usually the first few days are required for you to start our training and finish through until you have completed them. They have lots of helpful information but the most important is safety. It walks you through a number of safety items that include accidents, bio hazards/chemicals, tools, etc.

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

I have touched on information above about internal promotion. Our master technicians do a wonderful job being there to assist and help with any questions or concerns our younger technicians may have. Whether it's answering a simple question or assisting in a job they have been great mentors throughout our shop.

How does your shop get involved with the local community?

We not only participate in many charities throughout our community, but we also have started something called "pitching in" which gives back to our charity of choice based off our employees interests. Lum's then matches the same amount the employees have raised.

Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

We do, we have ties with our local MERTS as well as the school down the street from us has an automotive program we get involved in.

Where do you see the shop in five years?

In five years I see us utilizing our space and time better. Our express team will be moving to a separate shop area that we are in the process of revamping, which then opens up our space for more master technicians.

Do you have an application form and how long does it typically take to complete?

We do have an application form. You can access it through Lumsautocenter.com (contact us-careers) or we have physical applications an applicant can obtain in person.

Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

We typically do. We will give the applicant a call and see if this is something they are wanting to come interview for before wasting not only our time but theirs.

What do your in-person interviews entail?

We start with getting to know the individual and why they chose us to apply for. We ask questions to receive knowledge of their interests in the job and if this would be a good fit for them. We usually end the conversation with questions for us and information they believe we didn't go over to obtain better knowledge of the job they could be accepting.

Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?

Background checks and drug screening are both performed before a job is offered and accepted.

Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?

Our skill assessment is asked during the application. It just asks basic skills that this individual has.

After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?

Up to 1-2 weeks. We wait until we have both the drug and background check back.

Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?

3-4 weeks max, with having a new job posted we typically leave it open a few days for applicants.
