Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?
Our career roadmap is driven by training. A level 1 trainee can advance to a Senior Master in 5-6 years. In 2023, Jim Keras Subaru Service spent over $60,000 in training. Technicians are paid while in training and we cover all training expenses. Technicians are compensated by their base rate or productive rate whichever is HIGHER.
Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?
There are success stories to be seen all around the Jim Keras Automotive family. Executive Managers that started as porters. A Fixed Director who started as an Advisor. Service Managers who started as tech trainees, Master technicians who started as lube techs or detailers, and numerous employees who have been with the Keras Family for over 20 years.
Can you describe your performance review process?
Jim Keras Subaru service conducts annual performance reviews consisting of a 10-item questionnaire completed by the technician and management with discussion and improvement plan if needed
What type of safety training is required?
Jim Keras Subaru service enlists a 3rd party vendor to handle all OSHA and Hazardous materials required training.
Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?
Based on how a trainee shows their work ethic, technicians approach management who supports trainee progression and approve the training process to begin. Jim Keras Subaru is not a "you figure it out like I did" shop.
How does your shop get involved with the local community?
Each year Jim Keras Subaru and Subaru of America team up to select a local charity to help. In 2023, The Madonna Learning Center received $56,000.00.
Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?
Members of our auto group either are currently serving or have served on the advisory board of Moore Tech Automotive and have relationships with several other high school and vocational schools. We have also participated in tours, speaking engagements, and numerous career events.
Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?
Yes, we conduct phone screenings before scheduling in-person interviews. This initial step helps us to better understand the candidate's qualifications and fit for the position. If the phone screen goes well, we then proceed to arrange an in-person interview.

Our in-person interviews for automotive technicians start with an introduction to our company and the role. We then ask behavioral and technical questions to assess problem-solving skills, teamwork, and automotive knowledge. We also discuss cultural fit and provide candidates the opportunity to ask questions. Finally, we outline the next steps in the hiring process.

Yes, we perform background checks and drug screenings before hiring an applicant. We do not typically conduct personality tests as part of the hiring process.

Yes, we perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant. For automotive technicians, this assessment includes a hands-on practical test where candidates demonstrate their technical abilities, such as diagnosing and repairing common automotive issues. This helps us ensure they have the necessary skills for the job.
After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?
After an in-person interview, you can expect to hear back with either a rejection or an offer within approximately one to two weeks.

The full hiring process, from submitting the application to receiving a hiring decision, typically takes about three to four weeks.

Technician Trainee Level 1
Pay Range: $18.00 - $18.00/hour
Trainee Level 1 is designed for the first 30 days of employment and to complete Level 1 Web based training and be promoted to Level 2
Technician Trainee Level 2 & 3
Pay Range: $19.00 - $19.00/hour
Trainee Levels 2 & 3 include 5-10 hours of overtime per week
Technician Trainee Level 4
Pay Range: $49,000.00 - $53,999.99/year
12%-15% of all required training is complete. Hybrid plan $20.00 clock and $6.00 per flat rate hours turned
Technician Level 1
Pay Range: $58,000.00 - $86,999.99/year
16%-24% training complete Technician Level 1 starts on a Hybrid Plan consisting of $20.00 per hour clocked and $8.00 per flat rate hour turned When a technician demonstrates that they can turn 50.0+ hours consistently, the Technician can elect to move to a Flat Rate only at $28.00 per flat rate hour produced
