Under The Hood
Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?
Yes, it is heated. No, it is not air-conditioned.
What is the size of the team I’d be working with?
Our main garage has 6 full-time technicians, Our Quick Lane has 4-6 full/part-time Maintenance Technicians. Each department has 2 Advisors.
What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?
Major Repair hours are as follows: Monday through Friday 8:00A - 6:00P. Quicklane hours are as follows: Monday through Friday 7:00A - 7:00P and Saturdays 8:00A - 5:00P. Full time employees are allowed a 1 hours lunch break each shift which averages 40 hours / week.
What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?
Our tool room is equipped with Ford OE specialty tools, as well as some shop-use tools that are required to perform certain repairs. Each technician is also issued a laptop.
What type of break room facility is provided?
Heated / air-conditioned employee break room is equipped with a microwave, fridge, sink, wifi, and big screen TV.
How many bays does your shop have?
14 (two posts) lifts, 3 drive-on (four posts) lifts, and 2 flat bays.
How many repair orders do you average per month?
In 2023 we averaged 730 ROs per month.
What is your parts ordering process?
Our software allows the Technician to inspect the vehicle and create recommendations for repairs via the technician's laptop. The software allows for detailed lists or descriptions to be added and is then sent to the Parts Dept to be priced. If there are any questions about the requested parts, the Parts Advisor will ask the Technician for clarification. We use a Print, Circle, Sign approach to assure clarity. Once priced, Repair Recommendations are then sent to the Advisor who will check for warranty coverage or customer approval - approved repairs are sent back to the Parts Dept to be ordered.
What is your policy on side work?
Any technician may work on their personal vehicle on their own time (not paying labor) as long as there is an open repair order. Employees may not perform service repair work if such work conflicts with the proprietary interest of the Dealership. Also, Dealership policy forbids a financial interest in an outside concern which does business with or is a competitor of the Dealership (except where such ownership consists of securities of a publicly owned corporation regularly traded on the public stock market). Rendering of directive, managerial, or consulting services to any outside concern which does business with or is a competitor of the Dealership, except with the knowledge and written consent of the President of Heritage Ford Inc., is also prohibited. If you think that there is a possibility that you may have a conflict, it is your responsibility to notify the President and obtain his approval in writing. The Service Manager can also be addressed with questions about this policy.
Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?
Skilled technicians are only limited by their proficiency and desire to work.
Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?
We are committed to the continuing professional development of our technicians. We recognize and encourage development in Ford STST training certifications. We support and pay for online and in-person technician training, to include travel, food, and lodging.
Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?
We are proponents of promotion from within. Key department managers, to include our Service Manager, began their careers with us in entry level positions. We prioritize lateral moves within our company when there is opportunity and a good skill match.
Can you describe your performance review process?
Technicians are reviewed ad-hoc based on their performance.
What type of safety training is required?
Our dealership compliance training includes industry-standard best practices for technician safety in the shop.
Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?
Entry-level technicians are given work suited to their experience. Our shop foreman, senior master technicians, and shop managers provide daily mentorship and guidance as circumstances permit.
How does your shop get involved with the local community?
We support a number of charities in the community. Our shops regularly host student / trade school job shadowing and paid/unpaid internships. Some graduates of this program have been hired into technician positions at the dealership.
