Under The Hood

Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

Shop is well heated and ventilated. A/C is accessible in our office areas and Break Rooms.

What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

We currently have 10 Technicians on payroll at the Charlotte, NC Branch. This is expected to double in the coming years with the addition of second shift.

What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

We operate 5 normal working days a week Monday – Friday 7 am – 5 pm. Saturdays are optional depending on customer needs.

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

Clarke will provide all manufacturers specific tools related to the product being worked on. This shop also supplies heavy duty tools such as Âľ and above air impacts Torque Wrenches & sockets.

What type of break room facility is provided?

We currently have two break rooms with the comfort of HVAC, Refrigerator, Microwave, Toaster Oven, & Coffee Makers. Television is also provided in both rooms.

How many bays does your shop have?

We operate and maintain 14 Shop Bays at this location with a Chassis Dyno capable of 1000 Horse Power, and Wash Bay.

How many repair orders do you average per month?

We average anywhere from 150 to 250 work orders each month.

What is your parts ordering process?

All parts are ordered through our Parts Department. There is CSR’s in this department that take your order and process as needed after the customer has approved the repair. We require a form to be completed by each technician with the specific information needed.

What is your policy on side work?

Would need to be discussed with branch manager.

Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?

We have the best techs that this industry offers. Most of our techs have more than 20 years’ experience with Clarke Power Services. These same Techs will work with our new techs in hopes that they too would be a 20 year veteran with this company one day.

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

Clarke offers training to all Technicians each week. This is mainly a virtual training class focused on All Makes. We also provide in person training at two Clarke locations. This training will take Techs into a deeper dive with Allison Transmission & Detroit Diesel Instructor Led Training.

Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

Progression & Opportunities, with hard work and time to learn, will be available to you. Dedication to your career as a technician is the starting point to establishing a goal that will open opportunities to progress in this industry. Our Charlotte Manager started out as an Entry Level Tech 21 years ago, then moved up to a CSR, and then to Customer Support Manager. Over 40% of our Managers started out as Technicians.

Can you describe your performance review process?

6 months after being hired at this location, you will be given a performance review. This review will make sure you are on track with the expectations of the company and yourself. This will then take you to the Annual Review process where you will be able to see your progression and set new goals for the coming year. Performance Evaluations for pay increase are given at least yearly.

What type of safety training is required?

Safety Training will be the first step after being hired before you can enter the shop to start working. Clarke has this training in place to help prevent any accidents from occurring on and off the job. Each month you will be required to complete a series online Training courses. Your Safety is very important to Clarke.

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

We have a Mentor program in place at this location. We would pair you up with one of our Senior Techs in the beginning of your journey as a Clarke employee. This Mentor will help answer any questions you may have and will be paired with you based on your current career path and their expertise.

How does your shop get involved with the local community?

We made generous donations to the Boys & Girls Club in the surrounding counties. Clarke as a company, gives $75,000 each year to organizations that serve the communities of our shops.

Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

We participate in a Job Fair at CPCC in Huntersville, NC each year. We also participate in the UTI, Nascar Job Fair. We like to get involved with high school and college tech schools near us!

Where do you see the shop in five years?

This shop will have a fully staffed second shift. We will also look to increase the number of mobile service trucks visiting customer sites performing maintenance and repairs.

This Clarke branch in Charlotte, NC has the best Techs & CSR’s in the business. We consider ourselves a family and will do everything possible to help each other when needed.

We perform a standard background check, urine drug screen, and a brief job behaviors assessment.

A skills assessment is available for advance level technical positions.

We proceed quickly. Average time is less than 3 days.

A Level Technician
A Level Technicians are highly skilled technicians that have strengths in their diagnostic and mechanical ability. This level of technician typically has many years of experience and education. We view an A Level Technician as the highest skilled technician in a shop
Pay Range: $63,000.00 - $83,000.00/year

This is Senior Level Tech $30 - $40 per hour

B Level Technician
B Level Technicians are skilled in mechanical repair and, while not their specialty, have some diagnostic skills. B Level Technicians generally have a fair amount of experience and can be trusted to handle most repairs.
Pay Range: $50,000.00 - $60,000.00/year ($24.04 - $28.85/hr)

This is Mid-Level $24 - $28 per hour

C Level Technician
C Level Technicians are more of entry level technicians. C Level Technicians’ responsibilities typically include basic maintenance, alignments, brake and suspension work, along with other base level repairs.
Pay Range: $44,000.00 - $48,000.00/year ($21.15 - $23.08/hr)

This is Entry Level $21 - $23 per hour

Student Tech / Apprentice
Student technicians work on entry level tasks while completing their school programs.
Pay Range: $18.00 - $20.00/hour

Clarke offers a a 401 (k) Retirement Plan. You are eligible to join the plan if you are at least 18 years of age. Clarke contributes 3% of your gross wages weekly to your 401(k) plan. You are always 100% vested in your dollars and you are 100% vested in the Clarke Power Services 3% contributions after one year. That's right, regardless of your contribution level, Clarke will contribute 3% of your gross wages each week to your 401 (k) plan!

ST / LT Disability Offered
Clarke provides eligible employees, at no cost with Short-Term Disability coverage should they become disabled with a non-work-related illness or injury. Benefits begin on the 1st day for accidents and the 8th day for sickness. You may be eligible for up to 75% of your weekly income up to maximum of $450 per week for up to 26 weeks. Clarke provides eligible employees the opportunity to apply and purchase Long-Term Disability coverage. This coverage provides income protection should you become disabled with a non-work-related illness or injury. After being disabled for 180 days if you are unable to perform your own occupation and upon claim approval, the Long-Term Disability plan may pay 60% of your eligible pre-disability earnings to a maximum of $5,000 per month for up to 2 years.
