Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?
The shop is heated and stays very warm in the winter.
What is the size of the team I’d be working with?
We have 3 service technicians, 3 lube techs/technician helpers, 2 service advisors, 1 parts specialist and the owners work on site daily.
What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?
Our hours are 8-5 Monday through Friday that sometimes require staying past 5 or coming in early, especially for the commissionable employees that wish to add to their paychecks.
What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?
Scan tools, programming tools, ac machines, tire and balance machines, hunter alignment machine, numerous other special equipment that does not include hand tools or basic essentials.
What type of break room facility is provided?
We have a break room provided and a refrigerator to store lunch/drinks in

How many repair orders do you average per month?
approximately 180-200
What is your parts ordering process?
once a technician writes a diagnosis on the repair order, they give it to the service advisor to estimate. The service advisor or parts specialist will order the parts after the estimate is approved. Any other parts that are needed can be ordered by the parts specialist or technician via computer in the shop area.
What is your policy on side work?
Employees are allowed to use the shop after business hours to work on their personal vehicles only.
Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?
We offer continuing education classes several times a year and encourage ASE test taking by covering the cost of the test. Classes are usually in Fort Smith, AR from 6-10pm
Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?
While although we are currently hiring for an "A" level technician, we also offer lube technician positions with the ability to learn and grow into a commission pay technician.
Can you describe your performance review process?
Performance reviews are done periodically or when needed if employee is due for a compensation increase.
What type of safety training is required?
The shop foreman, service manager, or owner will give each new hire a walkthrough of the shop explaining all of our safety equipment and processes, its location and how and when to use it.
Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?
Any of our lube techs and light line technicians have the opportunity for hands on training by assisting our other technicians on the job.
How does your shop get involved with the local community?
Carmack's Garage sponsors several local events and donates to local charities such as the boys and girls club of America.
Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?
We work closely with the local Vo-tech school, Kiamichi Technology Center, and have hired several students for full and part time positions.
Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?
We typically do not use the phone conversations to screen applicants or as a form of interview.
What do your in-person interviews entail?
We do offer zoom call interviews to candidates that do not live close by.
Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?
All candidates are subject to background check, driving record review, and drug test at any time.
Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?
Our indeed applications may have a skills assessment attached, other than that we do not have a skills assessment that we perform before hiring.
After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?
Depending on which job a candidate is applying for and how many candidates have applied, usually 1-2 days.
Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?
A new hire will usually start work within a couple of days of being hired.
A Level Technician
Pay Range: $25.00 - $30.00/hour
An "A" level mechanic/technician is truly an “A” technician/mechanic. Someone who has the ability to diagnose, repair and complete a project without any assistance. An “A” mechanic will have years of experience and keeps up with the advanced training needed to do his/her job correctly. Also must have all of their own tools excluding shop equipment/shop tools.
Service Advisor
Pay Range: $36.00 - $91.00/year
This is commission pay job based on a percentage of gross profit.
Lube Technician
Pay Range: $11.50 - $14.00/hour
This job also has a commission bonus.
B Level Technician
Pay Range: $15.00 - $25.00/hour
A "B" level technician can change basic parts (steering/suspension, brakes, alignment, minor engine components) and is working towards learning electrical and diagnostic skills.
Student Tech / Apprentice
Pay Range: $7.50 - $12.00/hour
We occasionally will hire students as a apprentice to train under and assist other technicians.
