Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?
Shops are heated and use shop coolers for air conditioning.
What is the size of the team I’d be working with?
GM Service department has 12-14 technicians and the bodyshop has 4-6 employees.
What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?
The service department is open from 7:30 AM- 6:00 PM. Technician shifts are from 7:45 AM-5:30 PM Lube technician shifts are from 7:30 AM-5:00 PM Body Shop hours are from 7:30 AM-6:00 PM
What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?
Manufacturer-specific tools for technicians and lube technician tools are provided.
What type of break room facility is provided?
We have two airconditioned breakrooms with refrigerators, microwaves, televisions and sinks.
How many bays does your shop have?
GM Service has 14 bays and the body shop has
How many repair orders do you average per month?
GM service department averages 800 repair orders per month.
What is your parts ordering process?
DFX is used through our DMS and back counter access.
What is your policy on side work?
Employee or immediate family members' vehicles only.
Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?
Manufacturing training and ASE certifications are paid for by the company.
Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?
Lower-level technicians can always have an opportunity to move up. Technician helpers and technician apprentices can train to become full technicians.
Can you describe your performance review process?
Performance reviews are based on time employed, attitude, and work performance.
What type of safety training is required?
We have quarterly safety training by KPA.
Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?
Side-by-side training and monitoring mentor technicians through repairs.
How does your shop get involved with the local community?
We are involved with the local high schools.
Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?
We are involved with the local high school and are looking to build on that relationship.
Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?
No, we prefer to do in-person interviews.
What do your in-person interviews entail?
Meeting and discussing opportunities with the service manager and general manager including facility tours.
Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?
Drug screens.
Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?
Verbal assessment and reference checks.
After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?
1-3 days.
Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?
1-5 days.
Technicians/Body Technician/Painter
Pay Range: $12.00 - $38.00/hour
Depends on experience and certifications.
