Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

The shop is heated during colder months, and has ac for the hot ones

What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

We have over 37 full time employees in all roles at our shop. We currently have 8 technicians but will ideally grow to 9 techs.

What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

Monday-Friday, 9am-5:30pm -Overtime may be earned before or after these hours No weekends!

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

We have multiple scan tools, press, floor jacks, ac machine, engine hoist, transmission jack, and many other tools available as needed.

What type of break room facility is provided?

There is a break room facility with standard amenities such as a table, chairs, refrigerator, microwave, and a separate technician-only restroom close by.

How many bays does your shop have?

We currently have 13 bays.

How many repair orders do you average per month?

120+

What is your parts ordering process?

Technicians do not have to order parts at all, making it as easy as possible on them - an administrative assistant handles ordering.

What is your policy on side work?

None allowed.

Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?

We are a fast-paced shop with constant work available. We have an unlimited number of cars to work on as we are always buying and selling cars and doing repairs. If you're looking for consistent work and non-stop opportunities, look no further!

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

Yes, we encourage training and skill building! Our shop will pay for any training as needed.

Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

Newer technicians will be able to watch technicians of higher skill level work, and will be able to grow their skill level within our shop. Due to our hourly pay structure, techs can always watch and learn from others while never feeling they are falling behind. We want our techs to be comfortable with the work they're doing.

Can you describe your performance review process?

We perform annual reviews, and any other coaching as needed. We conduct a 30-60-90 day follow-up with new hires.

What type of safety training is required?

A safety review is performed with Human Resources several times per year, and can be done additionally as needed. Any needed safety equipment is available as well.

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

Newer technicians will be able to watch technicians of higher skill level work, and will be able to grow their skill level within our shop. Due to our hourly pay structure, techs can always watch and learn from others while never feeling they are falling behind. We want our techs to be comfortable with the work they're doing.

How does your shop get involved with the local community?

We are very involved in the community! Our shop leadership serves on several local boards. We financially donate to a variety of community organizations, including the YMCA and orphanages, and sponsor local sports teams. We are involved with food drives and an annual backpack drive for kids (giving 1,000 backpacks away each year!), just to name a few things.

Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

We have met with several local trade schools to build a partnership, and would love to increase our collaboration. In the past we have provided paid internships for local trade school students.

Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

We almost always phone screen applicants to better understand general information such as their work experience and availability.

What do your in-person interviews entail?

We will get to know the candidate better by asking questions about their past employment, how they have worked with former employers, and their skills & experience. We also conduct a short assessment about diagnostic codes. Afterward, we may provide a tour of the shop and premises, introduce them to other staff, and answer any questions or concerns they have. The whole process can take 30-45 minutes.

Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?

We may conduct a background check or drug screening if needed.

Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?

There is a short assessment related to identifying diagnostic codes.

After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?

Usually we will make an offer immediately or the same day.

Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?

We try to move as quickly as possible, and everything can happen within 1 day.

Is there anything else you’d like to mention about your hiring process?

We have a solid onboarding process once the candidate starts: on the first day, they will learn about benefits, be set up for payroll, review job expectations, receive a tour, meet all other staff, and will usually receive lunch on us!

A Level Technician Pay Range: $63,000.00 - $85,000.00/year ($30.29 - $40.87/hr)

Compensation is hourly pay, with a guarantee of 40 hours per week. Pay for A Level Technicians begins at $30/hour. Pay is weekly, and overtime is available. There is also a Christmas bonus! We offer great benefits including: free uniforms, paid holidays, and in-house training.

B Level Technician Pay Range: $52,000.00 - $63,000.00/year ($25.00 - $30.29/hr)

Compensation is hourly pay, with a guarantee of 40 hours per week. Pay for B Level Technicians begins at $25/hour. Pay is weekly, and overtime is available. There is also a Christmas bonus! We offer great benefits including: free uniforms, paid holidays, and in-house training.

C Level Technician Pay Range: $42,000.00 - $52,000.00/year ($20.19 - $25.00/hr)

Compensation is hourly pay, with a guarantee of 40 hours per week. Pay for C Level Technicians begins at $20/hour. Pay is weekly, and overtime is available. There is also a Christmas bonus! We offer great benefits including: free uniforms, paid holidays, and in-house training.

Top Shop Challenge: With a new school year upon us, what things does your shop do with local schools?

In July we gave away 800 back packs with starter supplies in them to children in need in our community. Every tech had the opportunity to be involved in the give away. We have in the past employed someone from the local trade school. He got experience and credit toward his graduation. It allowed him to get invited to a program at a local college to further his automotive education and gave us help in out shop and at the dealership.

Top Shop Challenge: WrenchWay recently celebrated its 3rd anniversary. Does your shop do anything special for employees on their work anniversary or their birthday?

For an associates birthday we get everyone a cake and balloons on their actual birthday. We also mail a them a card to their home. For an associates anniversary we also send them a card to their home, thanking them for their service. We also have an anniversary bonus program. The bonuses are paid at 1, 3, 5, 7, and every 2 years after. The bonuses get larger as the years of service increase.
