Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

Yes, Air Conditioned and Heated.

What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

As a technician, typically there are 6 members of each team (1 Team leader & 5 Technicians).

What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

We offer a 4 Day work week.

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

We have all the current Toyota tools., 4 new Pro-Cut on car brake lathes, 3 sets of tire mounting and balancing machines, 2 in-ground Hunter alignment machines, etc.

What type of break room facility is provided?

Our completely remodeled break room features two 70" wall mounted flat screens, new microwave, refrigerator, FREE specialty coffee machines, sink, etc.

What is your parts ordering process?

We have a centrally located parts department. There are 3 dedicated parts professionals committed to assisting our technicians.

What is your policy on side work?

We do not allow side work. However, if vehicle is owned by an employee or a family member of an employee, we offer 10% over cost on parts and half of warranty labor rate.

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

Yes. As of Dec 20th 2021, every technician, service advisor, service manager (2) and service director are all Toyota Certified in their position. Training & learning are a important part of our culture. Don't worry, if you aren't Toyota Certified, we will help get you there!

Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

We will always support employees to grow into advanced positions, including management. As of November 18, 2021, Group 1 owns and operates 218 automotive dealerships, 288 franchises, and 52 collision centers in the United States, United Kingdom and Brazil. We will support employees transitioning between our sites if you relocate.

Can you describe your performance review process?

We review all of our employees at least once per year, usually between January and March. We discuss your goals and how we can help you accomplish them.

What type of safety training is required?

We have comprehensive safety training (online & in dealership classroom) done by an outside company. Safety is required for all team members. Some examples are chemical, lift training, hazmat, etc.

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

Our seasoned master technicians/Team Leaders (we have 4 team leaders avail) are always eager to help.

How does your shop get involved with the local community?

We are involved with United Way and our local schools and philanthropic organizations that help in our area.

Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

We sponsor and help our local schools with 1 on 1 mentor program, equipment, engines, transmissions, etc.

Where do you see the shop in five years?

We are an ever expanding shop. We have one of the highest retention of our customers in our district. We sell many new and certified Toyotas so we have plenty of work to keep us busy, and we keep growing every year. According to the 2016 U.S Census American Community Survey, three of Houston’s zip codes were the largest growing in the COUNTRY: Katy’s 77494 and Richmond’s 77449 and 77407 (We are located in Richmond Texas).

We believe that the service department is the life blood of the dealership and facilitate every team members career development.

We like to know you. Your hobbies, family life, career goals, etc. We are a family oriented business and that is important to us. We need to make sure that you understand that this is a career decision, not just a job.

No, we do not.

Same day (at end of interview) to as long as 2 days.

A Level Technician
A Level Technicians are highly skilled technicians that have strengths in their diagnostic and mechanical ability. This level of technician typically has many years of experience and education. We view an A Level Technician as the highest skilled technician in a shop
Pay Range: $75,000 - $160,000/year

Master or MDT level technician. Since you are (or about to be) a Toyota Master or Toyota MDT, we understand and respect the personal commitment that it takes to reach this point in your career. We reward our Master & MDT technicians accordingly. Team Leader override/bonus along with a progressive flat rate compensation plan. Flat rate is dependent on years of experience and ASE level (current or expired).

B Level Technician
B Level Technicians are skilled in mechanical repair and, while not their specialty, have some diagnostic skills. B Level Technicians generally have a fair amount of experience and can be trusted to handle most repairs.
Pay Range: $45,000 - $70,000/year

Expert level Toyota / Lexus technician (or soon will be) . Performing brake & suspension work, fuel services, light diagnosis and repairs, More Toyota training would happen at this level. We facilitate the additional Toyota Technical training needed to help you reach your career goals. Progressive flat rate compensation plan. Flat rate is dependent on years of experience and/or ASE level (current or expired).

C Level Technician
C Level Technicians are more of entry level technicians. C Level Technicians’ responsibilities typically include basic maintenance, alignments, brake and suspension work, along with other base level repairs.
Pay Range: $40,000 - $60,000/year

Toyota Maintenance Certified or Toyota Certified Technician level (or soon will be) this position allows for training time, ie: how to do a proper brake job, etc. there are plenty of opportunities to make money. Progressive flat rate compensation plan. Flat rate is dependent on years of experience and /or ASE level (current or expired).

Lube Technician
Lube Technicians are entry level technicians that focus on routine maintenance such as oil changes, changing tires, and inspections.
Pay Range: $31,500 - $40,000/year

We offer both hourly and Flat Rate commission positions within our Express department. We work with 3 person teams and train on the Toyota way to do a complete express service, quickly and efficiently while still looking to the future and helping you become the Master Tech you want to be.

Service Advisor
Service Advisors are primarily customer focused and, as one of the faces of the shop, they are critical in keeping customers happy. Service Advisors are frequently focused on taking customer calls, relaying information to technicians, and selling repair jobs. Both technical and sales experience are helpful for this position.
Pay Range: $40,000 - $135,000/year
