Under The Hood
Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?
Swamp coolers are active in our brick and mortar. Our service vehicles do have ac and heat for the winters
What is the size of the team I’d be working with?
There are 5 techs plus management. We have 2 welders aswell on the team that help with the automotive aswell when needed. Keep in mind that we are mobile so you’ll be by yourself on jobs but over the phone for help if/ when needed and extra hands can be sent out asap to help with repairs if/ when needed.
What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?
Typically our shop hours are mostly 8-4pm. Monday - saterday. Some times some jobs start a little earlier and end a little later but mostly 8-4pm
What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?
We offer all specialty tools ( that we’ve needed so far ) we also have a shop scanner if needed. Also the addition of computer for techs to use all data and direct hit aswell. In addition we have the tool of education. Plenty of videos and reading material to help with growth in the buisness.
What type of break room facility is provided?
Typically if you’re at the shop that day we have a microwave and fridge to use. Most just eat in the front office. If your out in the field then usually the truck or where ever you eat at is the break room.
How many bays does your shop have?
Our shop currently has one lift but lots of room inside and outside in the yard (paved) for work.
How many repair orders do you average per month?
On a good day one tech can see up to 7 vehicles and repairs. Obviously depending of the jobs and drive time again due to us being mobile up to half the day can be spent driving to and from jobs.
What is your parts ordering process?
Typically we try to send techs to their job site with parts from job previously diagnosed if and when possible. When it’s not then the tech will call into the office with updated parts needed for repairs. Jobs sells and either that tech goes to the local parts store where the office has parts on will call or we also try to send our own parts drivers to pick up and drop off parts depending on how far parts are from the job site and also how far into the diagnostic/ repair the tech has been in.
What is your policy on side work?
Your work is your work. No side work is available at our shop. And if you take tools to do your side work then we expect those tools to be back on the work truck for the buisnsess. Obvious there will be no taking of our customer for side work. Just like any other shop if we find out this is happening then you could be terminated from your position.
Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?
Of course there is. Being mobile means you’re never in the same location all day long performing the same job time after time. We primarily are a fleet repair unit so you get to know your customers and their drivers pretty well. Not to mention the scenery. Areas as mentioned before ( prescott, flaggstaff, Tucson , Yuma, Vegas ) can be beautiful and make the job just that much more enjoyable.
Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?
YES WE DO. WE ALWAYS WOULD LIKE TO FURTHER OUR TECHNICIANS WITH AS MUCH KNOWLEDGE AS POSSIBLE.
Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?
WE ARE A GROWING COMPANY AND EXPANDING TO OTHER AREAS OF ARIZONA AND POSSIBLE NEVADA SO WE WILL BE SEEKING SALES REPS, OFFICE MANAGERS, SHOP MANAGERS AND SERVICE ADVISOR POSITIONS.
Can you describe your performance review process?
WE DO THEM VERBALLY. TYPICALLY WE WILL SIT DOWN ONE ON ONES TO DESCRIBE PERFORMANCE OR AS A TEAM. ALSO WHEN CUSTOMERS GIVE ANY KIND OF REVIEW PER TECH ILL ALWAYS FOWARD TO THE TECH AND TALK VERBALLY AFTERWARDS.
What type of safety training is required?
BASIC KNOWLEDGE AND COMMON SENSE.
Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?
AS A TEAM. WITH OUR YOUNGER TECHS ILL TEAM THEM UP WITH ALL OTHER SEASONED TECHS TO GET AN ARRANGE OF HOW TO.. IVE ALWAYS SAID THERE ARE MORE THEN ONE WAYS TO SKIN AT CAT. NOT ONLY YOUNG TECHS THOUGH GET TEAMED UP FOR EDUCATION. MY SEASON TECHS CAN LEARN FROM OTHERS ASWELL.
How does your shop get involved with the local community?
WE WORK AND HELP OUR SURROUNDINGS AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE. PLUS SOME OF OUR TECHS AND SUPPLIERS HAVE FAMILIES SO WE TRY GIVE BACK TO THIER SCHOOLS OR FUNDRAISERS WHEN POSSIBLE.
Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?
YES. WE FREQUENTLY WORK WITH THE COMMUNITIES COLLEGE DURING THIER WEEK OF “HIRE” , WHEN COMPANYS SET UP AND BOOST WHY THIER SHOP IS BETTER TO WORK AT. BEING A FORMER COMMUNITY COLLEGE STUDENT I LIKE TO REACH OUT TO THE YOUNGER CROWD FOR DIFFERENT OPPURTUNITIES
Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?
MOST OF THE TIME YES. ILL ASK BASIC QUESTIONS AND GIVE A BASIC OVERVIEW OF HOW OUR COMPANY WORKS TO MAKE SURE THE ONE ON ONE IS EVEN A GOOD IDEA. REMEMBER BEING A “MOBILE“ TECHNICIAN ISNT FOR EVERYONE.
What do your in-person interviews entail?
MAINLY HISTORY. I LIKE TO ASK WHERE TECHNICIANS COME FROM, THIER BACKGROUND IN THE INDUSTRIES. ALSO I LIKE TO TALK ABOUT STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES SO I KNOW WHERE TO START TEACHING AND WHERE WE CAN ALSO LEARN FROM EACH OTHER. BASICALLY GET A FEEL OF WHO THEY ARE AS A PERSON. AS A MOBILE SHOP I FEEL THAT OUR TECHNICIANS ARE THE “FACE” OF OUR COMPANY SO I LIKE TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY KNOW THIS AND ARE COMFORTABLE WITH THAT EXTRA FEELING THAT YOU DONT HAVE AS A SHOP TECH.
Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?
THAT IS A CASE BY CASE SCENARIO. MOST OF OUR TECHNICIANS CAME FROM WORD OF MOUTH SO BACKGROUND CHECK WAS JUST ASKING WHO SENT THEM OUR WAY WHO THEY ARE. OTHERWISE BECAUSE OUR TECHNICIANS WILL BE DRIVING OUR VEHICLES AND REPRESENTING US, IF I FEEL LIKE THERE IS A REASON TO DRUG SCREEN PRIOR OR DURING WE WILL A THAT TIME.
Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?
I GUESS YOU CAN CALL OUR RIDE A LONGS THE ASSESSMENT TEST. TYPICALLY ILL GIVE A NEW HIRE ABOUT A WEEK OR LESS DEPENDING ON THEIR EXPERIENCE THEY TELL ME ABOUT. IF ITS FOR A TECHNICIAN THAT IS LEARNING THE INDUSTRY AS A NEW LUBE TECH THEN THE RIDE ALONG WILL BE LONGER UNTIL WE ARE BOTH COMFORTABLE WITH THE MOVE.
After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?
TYPICALLY WITHIN A DAY OR 2 THE LATEST, DEPENDING IF I HAVE MORE INTERVIEWS WITH OTHER POSSIBLE CANDIDATES OR NOT.
Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?
WITH THE RIDE A LONG INCLUDED ID SAY NO MORE THAN A WEEK TO BE FULL BLOWN EMPLOYEE.
Is there anything else you’d like to mention about your hiring process?
WE NEED SOMEONE WHO WE CAN TRUST AND DEPEND ON FOR SOLO WORK AND AS A TEAM. ALSO A TECH WHO IS WILLING TO GIVE EXTRA WHEN NEEDED ( WHICH ISNT VERY OFTEN OR EVEN ASKING TOO MUCH ). AS THE SAYING GOES.. YOU SCRATCH MY BACK, ILL SCRATCH YOURS..
