Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?
Our shops do have heaters but is not air conditioned. Mosty of the technicians have swamp coolers.
What is the size of the team I’d be working with?
Our staff is less than twenty five people. 10 to 14 are technicians and the remaining is parts service and office staff.
What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?
Our business hours are from 730am to 500pm. We work Monday-Friday.
What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?
All specialty tools, testing equipment such as diagnostic laptops, lifting equipment and one inch drive tools.
What type of break room facility is provided?
A breakroom is provided for our employees.
How many bays does your shop have?
We have 13 bays for our technicians.
How many repair orders do you average per month?
Months vary. In January 2024, we had 120 service tickets opened. Our average for the last quarter was 123 service tickets.
What is your parts ordering process?
Parts needed are specified on the SO by the technicians in the operating program we use. This information is relayed to the parts department and they gather and order the parts requested.
What is your policy on side work?
Technicians are not allowed to work on any of our customers trucks or equipment outside of the shop.
Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?
Yes, we currently offer Perkins OEM training, Cummins Online training, some hands on training is available.
Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?
We can only offer growth in multiple lines of manufacturers/equipment experience.
Can you describe your performance review process?
After employment, there is a 90 day trial period. You will be evaluated at the 90 days. Performance and drive will play a roll in the outcome of a permanent position. We do yearly evaluations after that.
What type of safety training is required?
We have monthly safety meeting for the technicians.
Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?
We teach as we can. Our technicians are a wide range of age and knowledge. If we have the opportunity to teach, we take advantage.
How does your shop get involved with the local community?
We don't have much involvement in the community.
Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?
We currently don't have a program but would like to open that up in the future. We have had a couple of students in the past work here after school and during summer as a paid internship.
Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?
We like to talk to a candidate to set up the in person interview.
What do your in-person interviews entail?
Interviews are typically conducted by the foreman and lead mechanic. They will ask about past and current work experience. They will try to get an understanding of what you are capable of doing and what you are willing to learn if needed.
Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?
We do background checks and drug screening tests before employment.
Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?
In the interview, questions are asked to determine your skills, experience, and knowledge.
After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?
Please allow 1-2 weeks to be notified of a rejection of application.
Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?
There is no standard on time for this. We like to make sure we are hiring the right person for the job. Less than a month is typical.
A Level Technician
Pay Range: $28.00 - $35.00/hour
This level of technician should be highly skilled and have strengths in diagnostic and mechanical ability. Should have serveral years of experience and education. Hourly paid position based on background, certifications. With the opportunity to earn incentives
B Level Technician
Pay Range: $21.00 - $27.00/hour
This position requires the technicians skilled in mechanical repair and some diagnostic repair skills. The technician should have a fair amount of experience and education. Hourly paid position based on background, certifications. With the opportunity to earn incentives
C Level Technician
Pay Range: $15.00 - $20.00/year
This position is an entry level technician. Responsibilities may include basic maintenance, brake and suspension work, along with other base level repairs. Hourly paid position based on background, certifications. With the opportunity to earn incentives
