Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

Yes, the shop is heated and air conditioned.

What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

We currently have 5 Main Line techs, 4 Lube techs, porters and a manager.

What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

Shop hours are 8am- 5PM, Monday - Friday. We also have 1-2 Lube techs from 8AM - Noon on Saturdays. We are flexible with working schedules in terms of working 4 x 10HR shifts, and/or coming in on Saturday to balance out hours from a weekday if you choose.

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

Diesel and HD tools. Computer set up. Tool Cabinets.

What type of break room facility is provided?

2 different break rooms with refrigerators, microwave, sink, utensils, changing area, lockers.

How many bays does your shop have?

15

How many repair orders do you average per month?

We average about 700 RO's per month.

What is your parts ordering process?

ETC - GM Authentic Parts. Parts are brought to tech bays - ordered through internal chat system.

What is your policy on side work?

Flexible, TBD on a case-by-case basis.

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

We have a customized in shop, hands-on training program designed to grow the skills and ability of the technicians. We support OEM training, and offer scholarship opportunities for school tuition.

Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

As a dealer with 4 rooftops, across a variety of OEM brands, we provide both horizontal and vertical career growth opportunities. We have many examples across our company where individuals started as a Lube tech and are now sales and or service managers. Horizontally, we have technicians who have branched out to a wide-variety of work, and also made geographical moves to be in a shop with different levels of tenure, leadership and also lifestyle improvements to help reduce commutes.

Can you describe your performance review process?

Monthly 1:1 with service manager and an annual review with Service manager and General Manager.

What type of safety training is required?

OSHA compliance.

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

Johnson Motors have a customized on-site training program. We provide a dedicated shop trainer who trains the express/lube technicians. Those candidates who want to move to mechanical main shop work are assigned a master technician mentor. We also provide specialty mentors in terms of HD/diesel and transmission mentors.

How does your shop get involved with the local community?

We invest and engage with our communities in the following ways, not limited to: School support and donations. Youth sports, VFW/Legion sponsorships, Chamber events, Kiwannis and Rotary, community volunteerism and countless individual endeavors that we support.

Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

We engage with all of the tech schools across NW Wisconsin and metro Twin Cities, MN. We attend school career days. We support the local school technical education programs with donations and tools.

Is there anything else you’d like to mention about career development and community?

As a family-owned company, our profits are re-invested into our business and our local communities. We are not a corporate entity that consolidates profits in a location far away from its shops, and we do not have shareholders to disperse profits. That is important in terms of living and working in the communities that we reside.

Informal 1:1 with shop manager, then small group interview with GM, HR, and Service Manager.

No. We verbally discuss skills, certifications and experience. We will likely contact previous employer(s). We will potentially walk out and look under a hoisted vehicle and discuss what we see.

Is there anything else you’d like to mention about your hiring process?

In general, we prioritize cultural fit, integrity and work ethic. We believe we have a solid internal training and upskilling process with on-site coaches that can help techs at any level grow their skill set and earning potential.

Auto Technician Pay Range: $45,000.00 - $100,000.00/year

Pay is dependent upon experience and flat rate hour production. We offer guarantees at base levels and proactively move technicians up the line in terms of skills and subsequent pay grades. PTO rates available on day 1. We provide on site training, education and support.

Express Lube Technician Pay Range: $17.00 - $23.00/hour

Initial rate dependent upon experience. PTO rates available on day 1. We provide on-site training, education and support with the expectation of growing our technicians skills and pay.

Collision Repair Technician Pay Range: $80,000.00 - $100,000.00/year
