What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

We have 9 staff total, including 5 techs, a service advisor, shop assistant, customer service rep, and financial manager.

What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

Monday - Friday 8:00 am - 4:30pm No Weekends.

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

Techs will want to have their own basic tool set, but we provide major tools including scanning tools, etc. We can help you get your tools to the shop if needed. Also, we have a "community" toolbox available if a tool is needed right away and a tech does not have their own yet.

What type of break room facility is provided?

We have a comfortable break room area with table, 5 chairs, refrigerator, microwave, toaster oven, and sink. It is air conditioned and used as a space for team meetings. There is also a computer available in the break room.

How many bays does your shop have?

4 bays

How many repair orders do you average per month?

About 100 (transmission shop)

What is your parts ordering process?

Techs will list which parts are needed. If a part is not in stock and needs to be ordered, the tech will get estimate of when it will arrive. If a part stock is low, let us know to ensure more are ordered.

What is your policy on side work?

No side work permitted at the shop.

Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?

We are a professional yet fun group. Croce's is a Norwalk Chamber Small Business Award recipient and was featured in Gears magazine. Owners Maryann & Tony take care about their team. Budgeting education is provided to team members, and they are involved in the community, local schools and serve on auto industry boards.

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

Yes, we encourage training! Training is provided through affiliated associations we work with. Sometimes, we may bring in speakers or do online calls for lunch-and-learn sessions to discuss various topics. Along with career training, we also encourage personal development and training.

Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

We strive to know an employee's goals - either personal or career-related - to help with a skill development plan. If someone is interested in growing into another position with us, we like to define the role & responsibilities, provide them with an opportunity to shadow, and help them develop needed skills for the positions. We provide cross-training opportunities within the shop.

Can you describe your performance review process?

Our performance reviews will look at both metrics and how staff are meeting goals, but also their communication skills and how they work with others. We also ask how we are doing as a business.

What type of safety training is required?

Safety training is provided during the new employee onboarding process. We will bring the member through the shop and point out where things are kept, safety protocols, anything processes specific to shop, etc. There is a monthly review of potential safety issues, and we will discuss anything found. There is also a "shop clean-up" each fall, (which is done on a Saturday and given as a comp day). This is a fun day for team bonding, but also encourage the team to think about ideas for improved safety and efficiency.

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

When a new member starts, they are assigned a mentor to help answer questions about processes and procedures to ensure they are comfortable. The mentor helps double-check work for safety reasons and will provide guidance throughout the member's development.

How does your shop get involved with the local community?

We are highly involved in the local community! In April, during National Car Care Month, we offer free vehicle inspections outside in our parking lot, with giveaways and care care information! This has helped community members get more comfortable with auto care, and increased awareness of our shop. A portion of April's proceeds are donated to Make a Wish Connecticut. In October, we are involved with the Brakes for Breasts campaign to help fight breast cancer. The Cleveland Clinic is working on a vaccine. We are also involved with Wheels for Wishes, which encourages people to donate their vehicles if not used, and benefits Make a Wish Connecticut. During COVID, we have offered free oil changes to first responders, health care workers, and others on the front line helping our community. Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

We are involved with high school career fairs, We present to students and families at school 8 th grade career nights, Job shadowing partnership with a local high school automotive program. We also sit on advisory boards for a high school and secondary school.

Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

Yes

What do your in-person interviews entail?

The in-person interview will last roughly 1 hour. It will be a chance for us to learn more about the candidate's work experience and background, and include a tour of the facility. If during the day time, the candidate will have a chance to meet other team members.

Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?

We conduct reference checks before hiring. Driver's license checks Background checks

Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?

Yes, the skill assessment consists of situational questions to understand how the candidate would fix something or handle an issue. Responses can be verbal or written - whichever the candidate is more comfortable with.

About 2 weeks - may be sooner depending on the candidate's schedule.

We know change can be difficult. We will walk you through the process as a new hire. The team is welcoming.

Automotive Repair Shop Productivity Assistant Pay Range: $0.00 - $40,000.00/year

Duties: Maintain & organize vehicles in parking lot. Opening and Closing procedure Maintain loaner vehicles: wash, fill the gas tank, park in designated area. Inform management of any concerns or repairs needed. Assist with pick-up and delivery and shuttle customers when needed. Keep all building entry areas and lot clean and free of snow, leaves, and trash. Assist with snow removal on the lot and customer vehicles. Clean shop daily using mop, broom, rake, lawn tools & janitorial tools Qualifications: Applicants must be dependable, have a neat appearance and have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. All applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. and have a valid driver’s license. Experience is preferred, training will be provided. Handyperson experience a plus. A High School Diploma and Valid Driver's License Experience in auto repair, trade industry or handyman preferred. If you....
