The shop is heated.

What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

Automotive Mechanics work in a six-bay shop with three other mechanics.

What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

Shop hours: M-F 7am to 5pm Sat 8am to 12pm 8-hour shifts with Saturday rotation of one every four weeks.

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

We have standard shop tools like grinding wheels, tire changing machine, diag computers, floor jacks, welders, and torches.

What type of break room facility is provided?

We have an area with a refrigerator and microwave. We have a Culligan water cooler for clean water and free morning coffee.

How many bays does your shop have?

6 automotive and 8 heavy duty

How many repair orders do you average per month?

650

What is your parts ordering process?

We are also an Auto Value store and stock many parts. If we do not have it in stock, we can generally get it from local vendors or the warehouse same-day. We have a Parts Manager that orders all parts for both automotive and heavy duty repairs.

What is your policy on side work?

We offer parts and service discounts and our employees are allowed to use the shop for their own vehicle repairs while not on the clock. This includes a spouse's vehicle. As a result, our policy states that they are not allowed to be paid to do side work for others.

Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?

Courtesy is a family-owned business, and we take pride in treating employees as family.

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

We pay for employees to attend an expo every February that offers two workshops.

Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

It is possible for a mechanic to advance to management. Through hard work, we can put the right employee on a career path to help them achieve their career goals

Can you describe your performance review process?

We do not have scheduled performance reviews.

What type of safety training is required?

Basic training as to location of eye wash station, fire extinguishers, etc.

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

Our experienced techs are available to teach and mentor our younger techs. They will be available to answer questions, and work through repairs when time permits

How does your shop get involved with the local community?

The owner lives in the local community. Courtesy sponsors many events and donates items for local fundraisers

Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

Our general manager speaks at the local tech and high schools for career day

Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

Not typically. We prefer to do in-person interviews

What do your in-person interviews entail?

Initial interview with Owner. Second interview with General Manager and Service Manager. Discussion includes the candidate's background, skill set, likes/dislikes, and tools

Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?

We run driver's licenses to ensure that our insurance company will insure employee to drive company and/or customer vehicles.

Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?

Questions are asked during the interview to assess mechanical knowledge.

After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?

Less than three days.

Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?

One week maximum.

Automotive Mechanic Pay Range: $20.00 - $32.00/hour

We pay $1 per hour extra for each certification. Pay will be based on background, certifications, and skill set
