Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

The shop is heated but does not have air conditioning.

What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

The shop team consists of two mechanics, one helper, and one service writer.

What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

The shop operates from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Lunch is from 11:00 AM to noon.

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

The shop provides all specialty tools. However, mechanics are required to have their own standard hand tools.

What type of break room facility is provided?

We have a heated and air-conditioned lunchroom equipped with a microwave and refrigerator.

How many bays does your shop have?

The shop has five interior bays and two exterior bays.

How many repair orders do you average per month?

The number of repair orders varies based on the scope of work, but on average, each mechanic handles approximately 60 repair orders per month.

What is your parts ordering process?

The service writer looks up and orders routine parts through the parts department. Specialty parts are ordered directly by the parts department.

What is your policy on side work?

Side work is discouraged, especially with the shop’s customer base.

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

We provide and pay for any specialty training and certifications offered by manufacturers

We always look to promote from within. With hard work and provided training, opportunities are always there for the right individual

Can you describe your performance review process?

We give an automatic 60-day review and then an annual review. Employees are graded on customer skills, job performance, and team building.

What type of safety training is required?

Monthly team safety meetings are required. PPE knowledge is expected.

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

The team is small so there is limited opportunity to mentor. But there will be occasions to work with laborers to school in a limited capacity.

How does your shop get involved with the local community?

We are in a small local community. We volunteer time and equipment for many community events.

Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

We have reached out to the local high school and community college to see if there was any interest. There is definitely a need in the industry, and we would like to help where needed

Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

We do a limited phone introduction interview prior to in-person. This can be done by FaceTime. Brief conversation about the candidate's background and getting to know them

What do your in-person interviews entail?

Review of applicants' job history. Discussion of our job opening. General review of applicants' social skills.

Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?

We do perform a background check.

Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?

Yes, we do have a general skill assessment that we set up based on the job opening. It will entail a general service review.

After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?

2 weeks at the most

Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?

Our needs are immediate. So the position can be filled within a 3-week period

Diesel Mechanic Pay Range: $30.00 - $55.00/hour

Diesel Mechanic Hydraulic experience Prep and assemble new equipment Routine Service of gas and diesel engines Diagnostic capabilities of engine issues Diagnostic capabilities of electrical issues Diagnostic capabilities of hydraulic issues Able to use EST tools Able to use software tools Able to supervise others Able to train others Guaranteed 40 hr paid work week

Service Writer Pay Range: $15.00 - $25.00/hour

Customer Service Answer Phones & Emails Coordinate w/ Vendors Parts departments Schedule Customer repairs File for Warranty Reimbursement
