Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

Yes, our shop is heated, Unfortunately shop is not air conditioned

What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

We currently have 14 techs. 1 shop foreman/master technician, I world Class technician, 4 master technician which includes shop foreman, 3 used car technicians, 3 lube technicians and 1 Accessory/ PDI technician

What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

In order to best serve our customers, our service department is open Monday through Friday 7:30 to 6pm and 7:30 to 1pm Saturday Our technician are expected to report to work by 7:30 am and their workday ends between 5-6pm. We have a rotating schedule for Saturdays where our technicians work every other Saturday. As we grow we are looking into alternating week schedules and possible Saturday rotation to expand to every 3rd Saturday

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

Personal tools are to be provided by each technician; however, we do supply the factory specials tools, fluid exchange machines, ac machines for both R134 & R1234yf freons and a bearing press. Our technicians work as team so if you need to borrow a tool from someone, they are always willing to assist.

What type of break room facility is provided?

We have a large break room which consist of 2 refrigerator, 2 microwaves, toaster oven and a 65" TV

How many bays does your shop have?

We have 22 service bays, 1 alignment rack and 1 4 post rack for heavy duty vehicles

How many repair orders do you average per month?

We average between 800 to 1100 repair orders a month. Customer pay RO's average between 400- 600, warranty RO's average between 200-300, Internal RO's average between 75-100 and New Veh's RO's average between 90 per month

What is your parts ordering process?

Our MPI system is through CDK service, and our technicians use this tool to make repair recommendations. Our parts cut off is a 2pm for next day delivery if at our local PDC. Same day if part is locally which our parts porter will pick up in a timely manner

What is your policy on side work?

No side work is permitter in shop or company property

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

We are committed to ensuring our technicians obtain ASE certifications and receive ongoing education to enhance their skills and expertise.

Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

We foster an environment for the professional development of our technicians. They have the opportunity to advance to the position of Master Level Technician. In addition, we encourage those interested in other positions, such as Service Advisor or Shop Foreman, to partner with their manager to discuss the necessary steps for achieving their career goals.

Can you describe your performance review process?

Our shop foreman and service manager supervise daily operations to ensure high customer satisfaction, fostering an environment of excellence in service delivery.

What type of safety training is required?

Safety training occurs on the first day of employment during the Orientation and Onboarding process and annually to reinforce safe practices among employees

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

We have implemented an internal mentorship program to enhance professional development. Junior technicians are paired with senior technicians as they develop their skills and demonstrate proficiency in their current roles. This collaboration enhances their expertise and drives success within our team.

How does your shop get involved with the local community?

We are committed to positively impacting our community through partnerships with leading organizations like the United Way, San Antonio Food Bank, and Sleep in Heavenly Peace. Each year, United Way makes its way to our dealerships' showroom floors and showcases those in need and provides a simple way to donate. With the growth of our organization across Texas and into Oklahoma, Cavender Auto Family’s United Way Campaign reach is wide and impacts thousands of families in many ways. Together, we are driving lasting change. And that's how we make confidence happen!

Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

We actively engage with local schools, visiting them to highlight various opportunities in this field and to discuss the different career paths available to students.

Dental Insurance Offered: 2 Dental Choices provided Dental-Dual Choice – Plan I-DMHO (must see dentist in Guardian networks/copays for service) Plan II – Indemnity plan (see any properly licensed dentist of your choice)
Vision Insurance Offered: Cavender will continute to offer Vision Benefits through The Guardian for the 2020 plan year. You have a PPO plan that provides a benefit which allows you to use any provider of your choice.
Retirement Plan Offered: 401(k) is offered after working with Cavender Auto Family after 1 full year
Sick Leave Offered: PERSONAL TIME OFF (PTO) PTO is accrued upon hire or transfers into a benefits eligible position and will be available for use after 90 days of full time employment. Eligible employees must be scheduled to work at least 30 hours per week on a regular basis. Accrual and payment of PTO All full time employees except commission-paid sales personnel accrue PTO at the rate of ½ day per month to a maximum accumulation of 5 days in their first calendar year of employment.
Vacation Offered: PAID VACATION POLICY All full-time employees who have successfully completed their introductory period are eligible to qualify for vacation benefits. The length of vacation given to employees depends on their number of years of service and will be awarded on the employee’s anniversary date. The vacation benefits are as follows: • After 6 months of continuous service: 5 days of vacation benefits • After 1 year of continuous service: 10 days of vacation benefits • After 7 years of continuous service: 15 days of vacation benefits
Paid Holidays Offered: PAID HOLIDAYS After completion of the introductory period, full-time employees, other than managers and commission-paid employees will receive the following days off with pay any time they fall on a normal work day: • New Year’s Day • Fourth of July • Labor Day • Thanksgiving Day • Christmas Eve (half-day) • Christmas Day
ST / LT Disability Offered: VOLUNTARY SHORT TERM DISABILITY INSURANCE (STD) Full-time employees may purchase STD insurance. In the event you become disable from a non-work related injury or sickness, disability income benefits are provided as a source of income. You are not eligible to receive STD benefits if you are receiving workers’ compensation benefits. VOLUNTARY LONG TERM DISABILITY INSURANCE (STD) Full-time employees may purchase LTD insurance. In the event you become disable from a non-work related injury or sickness, disability income benefits are provided as a source of income. You are not eligible to receive LTD benefits if you are receiving workers’ compensation benefits.
Life Insurance Offered: VOLUNTARY LIFE INSURANCE Employees who want to supplement their group life insurance benefits may purchase additional coverage. When you enroll yourself and/or your dependents in this benefit, you pay the full cost through payroll deductions. • Employee Coverage is available in $25,000 increments up to $100,000. • Spouse Your Spouse is eligible to elect coverage up to 50% of the amount you (Cavender Employee) have elected. • Children (6 months to age 25 years) Dependent Child(ren) is eligible for up to 10% of the employee’s approved amount to a maximum of $10,000.
Uniforms Offered: Every employee is provided uniforms at a discounted rate and taken from their paycheck up to 4 pay cycles
Other Offered: All full-time regular employees (normally working a minimum of 30 hours per week) are eligible to participate in the Plan on the 1st day of the month 60 days of regular full-time employment. An employee who is not actively at work for any reason other than due to medical disability on his scheduled effective date of coverage will not become covered under the Plan until such time as the employee returns to active employment.  Your dependents eligible for coverage include:  Your legal spouse;  Your common-law spouse (documentation required); and Your dependent children who are: ▪ under age 26; ▪ any age if the child lives with you and became physically or mentally handicapped before reaching age 19 with the proper documentation.  Your children include your:  natural and legally adopted children  stepchildren  foster children  any child for whom you are legal guardian. Proper documentation may be required.
