Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?
All of our facilities have a heated and air-conditioned shop.

What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?
We are a 24/7 facility, 1st shift 7am-3:30pm 2nd shift 3pm-11:30pm 3rd shift 11pm-7:30am 40 hours per week
What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?
Scan tools and specialty software to diagnose fault codes Jacks/stands, coolant extractor machines, brake vericoms, specialty brake tools, battery testers, coolant refracto-meter, A/C machine, drive torque wrenches, bench grinders.
What type of break room facility is provided?
Open breakroom with refrigerators, microwaves and toaster ovens. TV in the breakroom and private lockers.
How many bays does your shop have?
Albany 16-17 Glens Falls 2 Schenectady 3 Troy 4
How many repair orders do you average per month?
Depending on experience, you can average 35-55 repair order per month. AS A SHOP NOT AN INDIVIUAL PERSON
What is your parts ordering process?
We have our own in-house stockroom that typically holds everything and anything required to repair our vehicles. If we do not have the part in stock then this is communicated to the Foreman who puts in a request for the part.
What is your policy on side work?
No side work on CDTA property
Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?
We encourage all technicians that have not already done so to obtain their Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certificates in order to increase their hourly rate.
Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?
We offer job shadowing among other professional development techniques in order to encourage and foster a learning/growing environment.
Can you describe your performance review process?
We focus of growth and collaboration. Learn hands-on by working with senior technicians, gaining experience through real-world training. We hold informal conversations to provide feedback, discuss progress, and address areas for improvement.
What type of safety training is required?
Standard OSHA training.
Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?
We have Technical Trainers that work with new and seasoned mechanics that want to grow in the field.
How does your shop get involved with the local community?
We are actively involved in the surrounding community, providing a wide range of transportation services and initiatives to enhance mobility and accessibility for all. CDTA's community engagement extends beyond basic transportation needs, including partnerships with local organizations, schools, community and sporting events, and initiatives like the Real Men Wear Pink campaign and the United Way.
Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?
We work with the local BOCES programs for limited intern positions with prospective students looking to work in the diesel mechanical field.
Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?
No we do not
What do your in-person interviews entail?
It includes a tour of the facility and an overview of our comprehensive benefits package
Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?
We perform background checks, drug screening, physical and agility testing, and check driving records
Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?
First interview is a written exam. If passed, a second interview is scheduled for a hands on assessment
After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?
Up to two business days
Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?
From the first interview to the completion of pre-employment testing can take about 2-3 weeks before an applicants start date
Diesel Technician (Mechanic)
Pay Range: $33.38 - $33.38/hour
In addition to the starting pay we offer up to an additional $3.20/hour based on ASE Certifications. We also offer a quarterly attendance bonus.
ITS Technician
Pay Range: $33.38 - $33.38/hour
In addition to the starting pay we offer up to an additional $3.20/hour based on ASE Certifications. We also offer a quarterly attendance bonus.
Service Technician (Bus Cleaner)
Pay Range: $21.10 - $24.82/hour
You will start at $21.10/hour and get a raise every 6 months until you hit our top rate of $24.82/hour. The top rate is achieved after 1.5 years. We also offer a quarterly attendance bonus.

- We offer Delta Dental plans for both employees and their families. Eligibility for this benefit is effective on the first day of the following month from the beginning of your full time employment (example: your first full time employment date is 1/15 then your dental benefits begin on 2/1)

- Retirement Plan Offered
- We have a pension through the union which is ATU 1321. After 5 years of employment, you will be vested into the pension. We also offer New York State Deferred Compensation, effective day one of employment, in addition to the pension as another option for retirement
- Sick Leave Offered
- We offer personal time and accrued sick time. Accrued sick time increases the longer you are employed. If you retire from CDTA you can cash out 70% of your unused sick time for a one time payment.

- We offer accrued vacation time, which increases the longer you are employed
- Paid Holidays Offered
- We have 11 paid holidays. In first 90 days you will get time and a half. After 90 days you will still get paid time an half but if you work the holiday, you get an additional 8 hours of pay.
