Under The Hood

Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

Yes the shop is heated There is no air conditioning but i have 5 industrial fans one for each tech.

What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

Currently there is myself the owner and 1 Level A tech and 1 Level B tech

What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

8:00am-5:00pm (Monday-Friday) Saturdays are optional

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

Ac machines 1234yf and r143a Welder Wash tanks Floor jack Lifts Transmission jacks x 3 Scan tools one snap on one autel Lots more

What type of break room facility is provided?

We don't currently have a break room but we are building a new facility We have a room with a fridge and microwave at our current location

How many bays does your shop have?

6 currently the new shop will have 7

How many repair orders do you average per month?

60

What is your parts ordering process?

We use the computer or call our local vendor the tech would not be responsible for parts ordering unless they wanted too

What is your policy on side work?

No side work unless immediate family

Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?

It's Worth noting that we will be relocating in 6 months to Billerica ,Mass. We are currently doing a $350,000 renovation for a new state of the art facility to move the business too. we are currently in Watertown and will be moving to Billerica

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

Transmission seminars are available if tech is interested. I am not opposed to pay for training if it makes sense for all

Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

I've had many techs over the years come here because they know how to fix mostly anything on a car but don't know much about the internals of a transmission. So even a top tech could learn something they haven't seen yet. I've had 2 techs move on to open their own transmission shops

Can you describe your performance review process?

After 6 months we do a review. We factor in punctuality, attitude,performance,quality ect..

What type of safety training is required?

There is no specific training required.

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

Current techs are willing to help younger techs and answer any questions are give each other a hand but younger techs need to be able to do there job without constantly needing another tech

How does your shop get involved with the local community?

We sponsor local teams the police and fire departments

Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

No, but I graduated from Minuteman Tech and would love to help students break into the industry

Where do you see the shop in five years?

Our shop will be bigger and better than ever in our new facility currently being renovated!!!!

Do you have an application form and how long does it typically take to complete?

I Prefer a phone interview followed by an in person interview

Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

Yes, light screen to gauge the interest level of the candidate

What do your in-person interviews entail?

I like to ask some mechanical questions. I like to know about experience and what tools the tech has. Also questions about drivers license , do they drink or do drugs basic hiring questions

Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?

Sometimes

Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?

No formal skill assessment. Assessment done through the interview process

After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?

1-7 days

Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?

Usually the applicant will find out at the beginning of the next week

Service Advisor Pay Range: $20.00 - $25.00/hour

We are payed at the end of each week

Service Manager Pay Range: $28.00 - $40.00/hour

We are payed at the end of each week

Lube Technician Pay Range: $15.00 - $18.00/hour

We are payed at the end of each week

A Level Technician Pay Range: $35.00 - $45.00/hour

We are payed at the end of each week, pay is based on experience and certifications

B Level Technician Pay Range: $22.00 - $35.00/hour

We are payed at the end of each week, pay is based on experience and certifications

C Level Technician Pay Range: $18.00 - $25.00/hour

We are payed at the end of each week, pay is based on experience and certifications

Student Tech / Apprentice Pay Range: $15.00 - $15.00/hour
