Under The Hood

Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

Located in the Pacific Northwest, Audi Tacoma has an average summer temperature of 79F in the Summer and 45-50F in the Winter. Multiple fans help keep the shop cooler on the hottest of days. Shop length heaters help keep things warm in the coldest of winter days. It does rain a lot in the Fall, Winter and Spring though.

What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

A typical team is around 5 techs per service advisor.

What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

There are currently multiple shifts on rotating schedules. Starting as early as 7:00am and ending as late as 6:00pm we cover both five 8 hour shifts and also four 10 hour shifts that rotate.

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

Like pretty much all modern dealerships, Audi Tacoma has built in tool boxes and carts provided. Special Manufacture Tools are provided as well as diagnostic and required EV protections. We have recently installed a PC server to download software from the OEM overnight and make uploads faster.

What type of break room facility is provided?

Audi Tacoma has multiple break rooms. The one most used by Service & Parts which also has become the central hub for all BBQ activities also has chilled & hot water dispensers, all cooking devices and a full-sized dishwasher. Often the TV is streaming car videos.

How many bays does your shop have?

The main shop has 17 in ground lifts and 2 post racks that are designed for larger and EV vehicle needs. In addition, there is one alignment rack which is getting new PC and software for the upcoming Audi Q6 model requirements. We also have a secondary shop located 200 yards away for vehicle reconditioning and PDI with 8 lifts which also has a rack space that can work with EV.

How many repair orders do you average per month?

A typical month is 1,100-1,300 RO's

Parts are ordered digitally via CDK Service

What is your policy on side work?

You are welcome to work on your own and immediately family vehicles with a written RO and permission from the Service Manager.

Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?

The shop was recently upgraded in 2024 with additional and conversion to LED lighting. If a clean, modern bright shop is something you dreamed of, it is here.

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

Audi Tacoma Service believes that training is commitment to your career. We have paid training for even the most basic web-based training classes. Most often using the training center in Eastvale, CA (Orange County, CA Near Ontario, CA) we pay to send our technicians to certify and learn new technology and product.

Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

Career growth is fundamental to both your experience and efforts however the opportunity is there for you to take. A great example is our auto group is our Porsche Service Manager Jeff who used to be an Audi Team Leader Technician and our Mercedes Benz Service Manager Luke who also used to be a Mercedes Team Leader Technician. Both spent the time learning new skills while performing exceptional at their jobs earning their new positions.

Can you describe your performance review process?

Review process is done collaboratively using our payroll software. This ensures that there is a measurable and consistent process that is uniform for all employee's job positions.

What type of safety training is required?

Safety training is outsourced and is minimal to you as an employee. By outsourcing we maintain that all labor and industries guidelines are followed correctly and are current. This includes EV as well. Safety concerns are brought up during weekly technician meetings and reviewed.

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

Audi Tacoma features a very comprehensive mentor technician program. We have a QR Code based training systems that tracts the progress and work of our new techs. This ensures that they are learn and applying their skills in a measurable context. By helping them create a book of business they can refer to it also helps them build their confidence.

How does your shop get involved with the local community?

Audi Tacoma, part of the Larson Automotive Group is long standing in the community and often contributes to various charitable organizations like the YWCA RAGS Event, The Amercian Cancer Society and probably our favorite, The Humane Society of Tacoma & Pierce County Animal Shelters.

Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

Over the years we have hosted both for students and their families' open houses as well as question and answer programs. But the events that bring more attention is our visits to local schools and programs, not so much for the giveaways but bringing the students a chance to see and sit in some of the more exotic vehicles from our stores.

Is there anything else you’d like to mention about career development and community?

There should be a roadmap to your career whether experience or starting out. If the place you work at can't show it to you then you probably won't travel down that road. Let us show you the way.

Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

While we would love to meet you in person, we like to have a quick conversation to see what you are about and looking for but more importantly we can answer any questions you may have.

What do your in-person interviews entail?

Our in-person and video interviews are filled with so basic interview questions as well as some professional questions.

Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?

We do perform a background check prior to offering employment and drug-screen prior to starting. We do not test for marijuana. We request a driving record for insurance.

Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?

Your credentials, work history and references are the only measurements of skill prior to employment offering.

After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?

Typically, we request to have the background check performed prior to an offer. Usually after receiving the forms, it is around 2-3 days.

Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?

In most cases it is done within a week.

Is there anything else you’d like to mention about your hiring process?

We are blessed that our HR department is located across the street from the dealership and the majority of our onboard in done online.

Automotive Journeyman Technician-Audi Pay Range: $45,000.00 - $240,000.00/year

We offer 4 plans to help employees access the best plan that fits their budget and needs. One plan is zero cost to the employee. We also have a company paid Life ($10,000) and AD&D plan ($40,000.00) that is for all benefit eligible employees. Employee must maintain no less than 32 hours per week to be considered ‘full-time’ for benefits.

Retirement Plan Offered
Larson Automotive Group also helps plan for your future with our retirement plan available to all employees over the age of 21. The 401k plan starts after the completion of 2 months of employment, the employee will be automatically enrolled into the program starting at a 3% deduction and this will increase 1% per year for the first 3 years. The company does match 50% of the first 4% contributed by the employee. Employees on a budget or who want to know exactly what will be coming out of their check can also opt to have a flat dollar amount withheld from their check. We also offer a ROTH plan option as well. Employees can opt out of the plans at any time.

We offer a competitive PTO (Paid Time Off) program; employees begin to accrue hours from day one worked (eligible to use after 90 days of employment). PTO is accrued for the first 2 years at 1 hour for every 40 hours worked at 3 to 10 years 1.53 hours of PTO for every 40 hours worked and at 10 years 2.30 hours of PTO for every 40 hours worked.
