Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?
We have two elevated heaters on either side of the shop. Our used oil-burning furnace is our main source of heat. The second furnace is natural gas which is our backup as needed. We do not have an A/C unit but several high-capacity fans and excellent air flow throughout the shop.
What is the size of the team I’d be working with?
Our open tech position would work with our master technician, our service manager and the owner. We help as needed to work as efficiently as possible.
What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?
The shop hours are 7:30 - 5:00 PM. The technicians generally start at 8 AM and work until 4:30 PM. We offer a great amount of flexibility to make sure the employees have a schedule that works with their family's needs.
What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?
We have several scanners and many specialty tools so the technicians do not have to purchase them.
What type of break room facility is provided?
We have a lofted break area with refrigerators, a warming oven, a microwave, and a pizza oven.
How many bays does your shop have?
The shop has five bays that include a drive-on hoist/alignment machine.
How many repair orders do you average per month?
we generate about 200-250 repair orders per month.
What is your parts ordering process?
After the technician diagnoses the vehicle and we have a discussion, the service manager or owner looks up and orders the necessary parts.
What is your policy on side work?
The technician can work on family vehicles after hours or on weekends with full access to our shop and equipment.
Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?
We like to have bands play at the shop from time to time on weekends. We get together when time permits at various events. We get Badger sporting event tickets from suppliers that the technicians have access to attend various special events and golf outings.
Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?
We pay for continuing education and any ASE certification testing. For any classes our technicians are interested in, we will pay associated costs.
Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?
I hope to retire at some point and would like to have a technician take over the business and continue to service our clientele. We have a master technician who has mentored several technicians to help advance their skill sets and careers.
Can you describe your performance review process?
The owner has yearly performance reviews with each employee.
What type of safety training is required?
We have standard safety practices.
Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?
It is kind of organic in each situation. Younger techs tend to learn very quickly from our master technicians. He has so much knowledge from working on many different Makes and Models, so we have a good understanding of what it takes to complete the job correctly.
How does your shop get involved with the local community?
We support and volunteer with local school and church programs.
Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?
We are just beginning to find out how to get more involved.
Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?
We typically have a conversation and find out what is best for the applicant.
What do your in-person interviews entail?
We introduce the technician to the team, show them around the shop to include our specialty equipment, have a sit-down interview with the owner, and finally have just the technicians talk to get to know each other better.
Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?
We do not do drug screening or personality tests.
Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?
No.
After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?
Usually just a few days.
Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?
Typically one week at the most.
A Level Technician
Pay Range: $65,000.00 - $85,000.00/year
We generally offer hourly pay unless the technician prefers flat rate. There may be a possibility of ownership interest.
B Level Technician
Pay Range: $45,000.00 - $65,000.00/year
Compensation will be based on technicians skill set and qualifications.
