Technician A
POSITION PURPOSE:
This position is responsible for the repair, service and preventative maintenance of the Authority’s vehicles. This is a semi-skilled position. HART offers a comprehensive in-house training program and performance based promotional opportunities. Applicants must successfully pass a written competency test and have a compliment of hand tools. HART will train people to obtain the CDL if necessary.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Performs mid-level maintenance and repair on transit buses, mechanical equipment, and/or automotive vehicles, both gasoline and diesel powered, including but not limited to engine adjustment, braking systems, shock absorbers and suspension systems and electrical and hydraulic parts and components.
- Perform routine and preventive maintenance including oil changes and tune-ups, troubleshooting inspections to determine need for repairs, and road test vehicles upon completion of repairs.
- Performs some service calls and emergency repairs in the field.
- Identify mechanical problems either visually or with computer diagnostic equipment.
- Maintains records of work performed.
- Assists high-level mechanics in more difficult and complex maintenance and repair tasks.
- Examine critical parts and systems using a standard checklist; repair or replace malfunctioning parts.
- Plan and establish a timetable to complete repairs and maintenance. Notify the Fleet Manager and others of repair schedule, prioritizing repairs as needed to meet operational requirements.
- Order parts as needed for repairs.
MARGINAL FUNCTIONS:
- Performs other work-related duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. certificate required.
- Two (2) years or more of experience in automotive servicing and maintenance. Experience in transit environment, preferred.
Machines, Tools and Equipment Used:
- General maintenance tools.
Licenses/Certifications:
- Florida Driver's License; must obtain Florida Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class (B) with “P” (Passenger) endorsement within the first 90 days of employment.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to operate maintenance equipment safely.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to interact with a wide variety of personalities.
- Ability to perform tasks requiring physical strength and endurance, when required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a working knowledge of the agency’s technical manuals and procedures.
- Ability to pass agency specific training and qualifications as required; to work overtime, to include shift work, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Ability to work various shifts, hours and days; including overtime, weekends and holidays as needed.
- Ability to meet attendance requirements.
- Knowledge of standard methods, practices, tools and equipment employed in transit servicing maintenance.
- Basic computer knowledge including but not limited to Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Working knowledge of occupational hazards, precautions and safety requirements of the associated job duties.
Physical Demands/Work Environment:
- Constant periods of hearing, near and far acuity, depth perception, color vision and speaking.
- Visual acuity is necessary to perform all duties.
- Frequent periods of walking and sitting.
- Frequent periods of standing and squatting.
- Occasional periods of lifting and carrying supplies and equipment weighing 50 pounds or more.
- Exposure to extreme noise when interfacing in the shop areas. Decibel range of 85+ duration on an occasional level.
- Exposure to mechanical hazards, fumes/odors, paints and chemical hazards in the shop areas.
- Subject to all weather conditions.
