Top Shop Challenge: March is Women's History Month.. As an industry, we have made progress, but still have a long way to go. Share some ways your shop attracts, hires, and retains women.

Maddyson recently joined our team at Classic VW as a technician. Hailing from a family of mechanics, she discovered her passion for working on cars at a young age of 14. Her uncle's extensive knowledge and experience in automobile repairs inspired her greatly, and he was even able to teach how to diagnose issues over the phone and recommended the necessary tools.

Top Shop Challenge: Many employees will follow or interact with a shop/dealer for a while before applying for a job. Share with us any examples of employees who took a while to see how awesome you are, or ones that left only to come back.

Todor Hadzhistoev is a Main Line Tech here at Momentum BMW. Hadzhistoev was born and raised in Bulgaria where he worked on semi-trucks with his grandfather. He has been dealing with cars since he was so little his grandfather had to put 2x4s on the pedals for him to move the semi-trucks. He always told his grandfather, "one day, [he'll] work on BMWs." That day finally came, but unfortunately, his grandfather is gone now. A few years ago, Hadzhistoev was going through BMW Step, but got into some troubles and was expelled. After some time passed, he got in touch with long term family friend, FOD Shawn Sharp, who gave him an opportunity and now he is back in BMW Step. He wants the younger generation to never give up and focus on fixing cars. He says, "Put your head and hands in the cars and it will pay off. This can be your career. Everything else can be replaced, but your head and hands, this cannot be replaced."

Carlos Peña is an experience Master Technician working for Momentum BMW for 23 years. He started off by being a driver here and was quickly given the opportunity to go through in-house training to become a technician. During his 23 years here, he did leave us for a brief 8 months. He decided to come back because he knew in his heart that Momentum BMW was always going to be his home. Coming back to him felt like, “when a child leaves for college and everybody is so happy to see them return.” Peña wants aspiring technicians to see this as their career and not just a job. He believes there is a lot of money to be made in this industry and as long as you dedicate yourself, you will get to where you want to be.

Check out this fun RO we received at Walser Polar Chevrolet earlier this year! The back of this truck's frame was damaged in an accident, so Journeyman Rick Dotte got to perform his second frame replacement throughout his career so far. Rick documented the process and says that frame replacements have become his new favorite job to do!

Jimmy our foremen wanted to join our team. We sat down and talked about what it would look like. At the time it didn't make sense for either of us to work together. We both knew we could do great things together. We kept in touch and when the time came that joining forces was in both our best interest, he joined the team. We are so happy that both of us left the door open for when the time was right.

I love the way Sonic does their tool holders. It makes it so easy to see what's missing with just a glance.

    March Madness

Does your shop have a March Madness pool? Also, in the comments put anything else that your shop does for the tournament (i.e., Airing the games at the shop, going out as a group to watch the games after work, etc.)
