Top Shop Challenge: Ongoing training is a huge part of our industry. Highlight some team members who have recently completed training programs and/or obtained certifications.

At Military we want to shine our spotlight on three individuals in our shop. Bryan Jeanquardt, Waylon Fry and Shawn Muentser. All three of these guys started with us when they were still in high school as youth apprentices. They worked hard and contributed to our business in a positive way and transitioned to part time employees while they tackled the next step in their career goals which is graduating from NWTC with associate degrees in automotive technology. During the month of May these three young men graduate and return to our dealership as full-time technicians. Bryan and Shawn will be joining our Hyundai service department and will work alongside our current Hyundai Platinum Master technicians Jim Walker and Brad Soquet. And Waylon Fry will join our used car reconditioning team working underneath one of our veteran Ford technicians Ryan Jones.

We have spent the last year developing an internship program that is competitive. At Brookline and all of our locations we welcome raw talent that we can help mold and grow all year long! We are super proud of our Front Office Mgr as she attended WIN, Women's Industry Network (WIN) this past month. Rhonda brought back some excellent ideas and represented our Collison team well.

  • Top Shop Challenge: Memorial Day is the unofficial start to summer. Does your shop do anything special either for Memorial Day or in general during the summer?

For Memorial Day we all are lucky enough to have a three-day weekend thanks to Carr! Some of our staff have a big camping trip this weekend, they are all going to the beach together. As strange as it sounds we all love to hang out even when we're not at work!

We're lucky to observe this coming Memorial Day with a 3 day weekend! Our service staff was recently treated by Management to an Employee Appreciation Barbecue last Friday. We here at Carr Chevrolet are excited to tackle whatever opportunities present themselves this coming summer.

Top Shop Challenge: Memorial Day is the unofficial start to summer. Does your shop do anything special either for Memorial Day or in general during the summer?

Like most shops summer is the time when our clients’ need us the most. This is one of the reasons why we don’t shut down during the summer other than the normal long weekends and holidays. The other reason is no one wants to be told when they must take their vacation. We know working in the heat can be tough. This is why we provide our techs with bottled water and cold treats. We pay attention to the temperature and slow down when the temperature gets too hot. Our team’s health and safety are more important to us than fixing more cars.

Flat rate, and wether it’s fair has been a hot button issue for years. While many technicians are for flat rate, the general consensus is that most are against it.

Thanks for bringing up this important topic, Craig. It's very timely because we're also going to be hosting a roundtable where we're bringing on 4 technician to discuss flat rate. It's free to attend and anyone can register here: https://wrenchway.com/events/flat-rates-contribution-to-the-technician-shortage/

  • Summer is my favorite season!! though it gets pretty toasty here in Washington state! Our shop has a shop cooler system which helps on hot muggy days for the techs. We try and keep a cooler full of water and Gatorade on ice during the scorching months! ways that will help keep you cool is Staying hydrated & taking a break when feeling over heated. Our HR department annually sends out a kind reminder about heat exhaustion and how to prevent it. your safety and health should always be top priority. Enjoy summer and all of the fun activities it has to offer but, stay hydrated.
