Conor one of our senior apprentices, tearing into his four thousand dollars worth of Snap On and Mac tools. Congrats Conor! Big thanks to Bo Eastman(Mac Tools) and Brandon McConnell(Snap-On) for setting us up with some great deals.

Do you offer any sort of tool reimbursement program for your techs? Or can you talk about what tools the shop provides?

We offer a tool program that is setup to grow with our technicians. Apprentices are given a Volkswagen Tool Program starter set of cordless and hand tools, along with a Bluepoint cart to use when coming on board, along with being able to utilize the tools of their mentor. If the apprentice remains employed with us for two years from hire date, they will get to keep that starting tool set, which is equipped with $2500 in tools, plus the cart. After six months of employment, an apprentice will get their initial $600 in tool money. Once they have hit their first year of employment, a technician or apprentice will receive $840. Each year this fund grows in value as well, and refills itself on your annual hire date.

Some great advice for new technicians coming into the shop after school. Don't fall prey to toolbox envy and get yourself in trouble on the tool trucks. Talk to the more seasoned techs in the shop and find out what you need to get started.
