What are some things you wish the general public or kids about to graduate high school knew about being a tech?

Being a tech is a great career opportunity! It can be very rewarding, and challenging, and changes quite often. No 2 vehicles are ever really the same and the repetition is very minimal! You get to use your hands, tools, and some of the advanced technology and equipment around.

Top Shop Challenge: Do you work with any local high schools? If so, please describe the types of things you work with them on.

Auto Source is proudly part of a local career tech center through the muskegon county. We meet with the program twice a year. We are always looking to recruit their top candidates for extra help around the shop. Offering this to these students helps us as much as it helps them. Getting experience working for a shop and we get an extra set of hands that we can enjoy teaching and watching learn tricks of the trade.

We have a corporate trainer that recruits at quite a few of the local high schools. There's also a career center at the high school about 2 miles from our shop, and we recruit from there as part of their curriculum is to send techs out to work in shops as part of their coursework. Our corporate training center is currently set up at our shop so we can check in on any recruits or new hires as they're going through the training process.

What are some things about your techs that you're thankful for?

We have a lot to be thankful for here at Toyota/Subaru of Corvallis. On the technician side, we have some world-class technicians including two twenty-year-plus technicians Bob and Alex, and several five-plus-year technicians Nate, Nathan, Dustin, and Josh. Something extraordinary about our shop technicians is that no one is ever too busy to help each other whether that be on a test drive for a noise concern, or removing an engine. We are also very fortunate to have some of the most driven young technicians in the industry Carson, Connor, and Mitch. We appreciate your hard work and the sacrifices you make to keep our customers back on the road and our business flourishing. On another note something we think goes unsaid many times in our business is just much manufacturer support matters to building a successful dealership. We would like to personally thank The Toyota Portland Region, and the Subaru Portland Region for all of their training, and support in growing our technicians and in growing our business.

What are some things about your techs that you're thankful for?

First and foremost, I'm thankful for their time. I know the work they do is by no means easy, and they continue to come back every day for more. That never goes unnoticed or unappreciated. I'm also thankful that they believed in me so much that they suggested to upper management that I be promoted from Advisor to Service Manager (May '22). I'm thankful for the team environment we have. Everybody is free to voice their opinion and bring suggestions to the table. When there are hiccups, we figure out solutions.

Walser Collision & Glass of Bloomington has a stellar team of technicians. We are so grateful to have a team of techs with incredibly strong work ethics. Our technicians always put our customers first with their commitment to quality repairs and their willingness to continue educating themselves with new technologies. This team has been together a long time (our newest technician was hired 8 years ago!) and are constantly joking and laughing with each other; there’s never a dull moment at Walser C&G of Bloomington. A big thank you to our hard-working and dedicated techs, and a Happy Thanksgiving to you all!
