What is your parts ordering process?

What is your policy on side work?

We are 100% happy for our technicians to do their own side work, as long as they are not advertising their services to our customers.

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

Yes! We offer every technician paid ASE certifications. We will pay for you to become certified, and you will receive an increase in your hourly rate for each certification you obtain!

Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

We are growing rapidly! In addition to helping our technicians become certified, we also encourage every technician to think about where they see themselves in 5, 10, or 20 years. For some technicians, that means continuing to excel at their passion. For others, that means stepping into a foreman role or transitioning to the front desk or an upper management position.

Can you describe your performance review process?

We review performance on an on-going basis. Formally, we review performance at 30-, 60-, and 90-days of employment. After that initial period, we will review performance with every employee once per quarter.

What type of safety training is required?

We expect all of our shop personnel to abide by our safety standards and procedures. We make safety a point of emphasis during our weekly shop talks.

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

Technicians who decide to mentor and train our apprentices will receive a portion of all hours flagged by that apprentice. Not every technician is comfortable training and mentoring others, and that's OK, but we will always reward our people for helping to develop young talent.

How does your shop get involved with the local community?

We are a people focused business. We provide our community with an honest and reputable shop for their car repair needs. No dirty tricks like the dealers or national franchises. Our people feel proud to tell others where they work.

Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

Yes, we have hosted shop tours and have traveled to local schools to encourage local youth to become involved in the car repair industry.

Where do you see the shop in five years?

Our Roseville location will continue to be the headquarters of our growing business. We currently have 6 locations and growing. In 5 years, we hope to at least double in size!

Do you have an application form and how long does it typically take to complete?

Our basic paper application is a standard pre-employment document that asks for information such as name, DOB, address, and dates of previous employment.

Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

Yes, our head of recruiting will contact you directly by phone and/or text if he thinks you're a fit for the position. You can expect this call to last 10-15 minutes and will cover basics like: what you're looking for in your next shop, which parts of the vehicle you're most comfortable with, and an introduction to our story and philosophy.

What do your in-person interviews entail?

We want you to see our shop! During your in-person interview, you may be meeting with our GM, our owner, or both. We also encourage you to walk around the shop. If you like, talk to some of the other techs or front desk personnel. What do they like about working here? What don't they like? We want to make sure this is going to be a good fit for YOU.

Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?

All job offers from Village Autoworks include a pre-employment background check. We know that mistakes happen, and people change, and we're happy to give folks a second chance. All we ask is that you're up front with us about what your background may include, so that we're not surprised by the results.

Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?

We do not conduct a "working" interview, but you will be asked about your automotive knowledge. This will include being asked to provide specific examples of previous repairs or asking how you would respond to different scenarios.

After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?

We typically provide a rejection or an offer within 24 hours after your interview.

Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?

Our recruiter will contact you within 24 hours of receiving your application. An in-person interview is then scheduled based on your availability. From there, it takes roughly 24 hours until an offer will be made. If you are available for the initial phone call and in-person interview immediately, the entire process can take as little as 24 hours, but typically takes 36-48 hours.
