Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?
Our shop is heated. It is not air conditioned but we have large ceiling mounted fans in our smaller shops with point-of-use evaporative coolers. Our main shop offers excellent ventilation in the summer months making it comfortable on most days.
What is the size of the team I’d be working with?
We keep a team of 12-14 technicians in our service shop and 5-7 technicians in our body shop. We also have a Quicklane store where we perform maintenance, tire repair, front end work and light repairs. This is a great place for us to "grow" our technicians.
What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?
Monday through Friday from 8:00 to 5:30 Quicklane is open on Saturday from 7:30 to 1:00 Our Quicklane employees get a day off during the week in return for working on Saturdays.
What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?
Our shop provides many special tools including scan tools and Ford specific repair tools
What type of break room facility is provided?
Break room is complete with a microwave and TV and is air conditioned and heated
How many bays does your shop have?
We have 35 plus bays in the service department. Our mainshop has over 30 bays, theTransmission shop has 5 bays, our Engine shop has 10 bays. Our Quicklane is a state-of-the art facility with 10 bays focused on maximum productivity. The body shop is very large 15 bays and plans to add nearly 5000 square feet this spring. We have a very nice paint booth that is roughly 5 years old.
How many repair orders do you average per month?
We average around 350 repair orders per month in our main shop
What is your parts ordering process?
Our parts are primarily order electronically from the work area although many technicians like to confirm the correct parts are ordered in person
What is your policy on side work?
Side work is allowed on family members' vehicles after hours or during slow times when there is no other work
Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?
Stevens Ford is has a great culture where we treat each other like family.
Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?
We offer encentives to train (and continue training) through the Ford STARS program. We highly encourage becoming certified and compensate our techs for doing so.
Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?
Many of our technicians begin as lube techs. or lot porters. We can often pair these individuals with our more experienced technicians to "show them the ropes." As our employees grow they often assume other positions with in the dealership. These roles include service advisors, parts personel and sometimes they even end up in management positions.
Can you describe your performance review process?
Performance reviews are done once a year. Generally, it is a 10-15 minute one-on-one process with the technician where we discuss each area of the evaluation.
What type of safety training is required?
We have safety training every two months. General safety is discussed during the orientation process
Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?
Our Techs actually work with the younger techs and new hires as a team until the "apprentice" is familiar and comfortable with the process that we use in our shop. This way, the new Tech knows what to do every step of the way, starting from receiving the repair order and verifying the concern all the way to finishing the repair and writing a story on the vehicle.
How does your shop get involved with the local community?
We offer free pick-up and delivery for our customers' vehicles. We have a mobile service vehicle and plan to offer a free mobile winter check-up fo our customers.
Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?
I am a member of the advisory commitee at technical school here in Enid. We take students for job shadowing to give them a real taste of what it is like to be a technician. We currently have one graduate from the school employed as a helper in our transmission shop.
Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?
No.
What do your in-person interviews entail?
We have a closed-door one on one initial interview that is sometimes followed up with a second interview if the person seems to be one that "fits".
Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?
We do a background and driving record check prior to hire
Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?
Not currently. Skill assessment is done through the interview process.
After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?
I can usually give an offer or rejection within 2 days
Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?
3-5 days
