Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?
The shop is heated during the winter months. There is no air conditioning in the shop
What is the size of the team I’d be working with?
The Parts & Service team is comprised of 25-30 people.
What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?
Regular Hours are M-F from 6:00 am - 2:30 pm. When overtime is present, the hours will shift.
What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?
Tools over 1-1/2" are provided by the shop. Techs are required to have tools up to and including 3/4 inch drive and drive socket set and/or box wrenches.
What type of break room facility is provided?
There is a break room that shares as the locker room.
How many bays does your shop have?
Ten Bays
How many repair orders do you average per month?
Between Internal and Customer Repair Orders, anywhere between 100-175 per month.
What is your parts ordering process?
We have a designated Parts Department that handles the ordering process. Parts will be received as soon as possible to complete repairs
What is your policy on side work?
We are a Union Shop and Moonlighting is not permitted.
Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?
We like to cater in lunches, grill out during the summer, and maintain a fun environment rich in culture.
Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?
There is online and in-person training provided by the lines we represent. This is paid training.
Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?
There is always rom to grow. we are a Union Shop, so there are levels to achieve to within the shop, but there are internal promotions within the organization.
Can you describe your performance review process?
Our current review process has our team do a self appraisal on their performance and then an in person review with their direct supervisor.
What type of safety training is required?
We have a monthly Safety Meeting with a safety expert.
Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?
Our training program has a the new tech work with our Journeymen for a minimum of two weeks before continuing in the rotation with the next Journeyman.
How does your shop get involved with the local community?
We do not at this time.
Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?
We do not at this time.
Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?
No, we generally do not phone screen.
What do your in-person interviews entail?
A conversation. Our in-person interviews are done in a professional manner, but seeing how a conversation flows is very important to the interview process.
Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?
Yes, we work with a third party Human Resource company who handles background checks and drug tests.
Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?
We do not have a skill test. Assessment is done through the interview process
After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?
Anywhere from 2-4 days.
Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?
Generally can get taken care of withing a few weeks.
A Level Technician
Pay Range: $28.00 - $39.95/hour
We adhere to the Union Scale. Based on experience, we hire in at different levels within the Union Apprentice Program.
B Level Technician
Pay Range: $24.00 - $28.00/hour
We adhere to the Union Scale. Based on experience, we hire in at different levels within the Union Apprentice Program.

- As a Union Employee, Health Insurance is carried through the Union. As a non-union employee, there are four plans to choose from based on preference.

- As a Union Employee, Dental Insurance is carried through the Union. It is not offered as a non-union employee.

- The Union had Pension Plans. Non-union employees have access to a 401K, Flex Account, and HSA

- The Union employees earn their first week of vacation after their first year. Non-union employees are offered vacation time in their job offers.

Shop Talk
March 8th is International Women's Day. Our industry continues to be male dominated but progress is being made. Tell us about some of the strong women in your shop and how you encourage more females to get into the industry.
In this Male Oriented industry, women are beginning to incorporate the Service world more and more. Here at Standard Equipment, our team of Service Administrators is led by women, who interact with the shop and technicians on a daily basis.
