Shop is heated but not air conditioned.

What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

There are 2 Service Writers, 5 other Auto Technicians, 1 Parts Professional, an Office Manager and the owner, who is an ASE Certified mechanic himself.

What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

The shop is open 7:30 am - 5:30 pm Monday through Friday. Expect 5 hours of overtime per week.

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

Specialty tools, scan tools, computers, OE scan tools for the big 3 US auto makers.

What type of break room facility is provided?

There's not a specified break room, but there's a refrigerator and microwave.

How many bays does your shop have?

There are 15 bays, 8 with fixed hoists and 1 with a portable hoist.

How many repair orders do you average per month?

150

What is your parts ordering process?

Once techs determine what's needed for each job, they give their lists to the Parts Professional who orders from the local parts suppliers as well as dealers. Our shop system also has the capability of ordering online from the local suppliers so that techs have the potential to order their own parts.

What is your policy on side work?

It's fine as long as it is not during business hours and doesn't use South Platte Auto Center's facilities or tools.

Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?

We do a lot of fleet work including DOT inspections. We also do a lot of diesel performance work. In fact, we have two sled pulling trucks that we use in competitions to boost awareness of our specialty.

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

Occasionally, dealers will put on training seminars that employees are encouraged to attend.

Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

We are too small of an organization to offer advancement opportunities. We will help to try and advance a techs career when it comes to their skill set

Can you describe your performance review process?

Annual performance reviews are performed on or around each employee's anniversary date.

What type of safety training is required?

None required.

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

Experienced Techs and Owner are available as needed for questions and guidance. We may also be able to work side by side when time permits with some repairs

How does your shop get involved with the local community?

We sponsor booster programs for schools, churches, and the local junior college as well as sponsor the annual auto show by the local car club.

Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

Only when invited to speak.

Where do you see the shop in five years?

Still leading the community in quality automotive and diesel repair services.

There is a basic application form that takes about 10 minutes to complete.

A Level Technician
A Level Technicians are highly skilled technicians that have strengths in their diagnostic and mechanical ability. This level of technician typically has many years of experience and education. We view an A Level Technician as the highest skilled technician in a shop
Pay Range: $38.00 - $50.00/hour

B Level Technician
B Level Technicians are skilled in mechanical repair and, while not their specialty, have some diagnostic skills. B Level Technicians generally have a fair amount of experience and can be trusted to handle most repairs.
Pay Range: $25.00 - $38.00/hour

C Level Technician
C Level Technicians are more of entry level technicians. C Level Technicians’ responsibilities typically include basic maintenance, alignments, brake and suspension work, along with other base level repairs.
Pay Range: $19.00 - $25.00/hour

Service Advisor
Service Advisors are primarily customer focused and, as one of the faces of the shop, they are critical in keeping customers happy. Service Advisors are frequently focused on taking customer calls, relaying information to technicians, and selling repair jobs. Both technical and sales experience are helpful for this position.
Pay Range: $19.00 - $24.00/hour

Hours are 7:00 am - 5:30 pm Mon - Fri, so expect 7.5 hours of OT per week. Bonuses offered if certain production goals are met. Requires customer service experience; knowledge of autos and diesels to discuss vehicles with authority; good personal organization skills; and strong computer skills. Must be be punctual, reliable and trustworthy.
