Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

The Shop is heated with sufficient air movement in the warmer months to maintain a comfortable environment

What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

We've got four Technicians and one Service Advisor and will be adding a second Service Advisor and Technician to the team in 2024

What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

We're open Monday through Friday from 8AM to 5PM

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

Scan tools, various machinery, and specialty tools.

What type of break room facility is provided?

We have a full kitchen and brake room removed from the shop environment which is heated and cooled.

How many bays does your shop have?

Seven lifts including one alignment rack

How many repair orders do you average per month?

150

What is your parts ordering process?

The Service Advisor builds estimates based on a written recommendation sheet submitted by a Technician which includes brief labor descriptions and necessary parts lists. The Service Advisor will source all parts and order them from within the shop management software upon approval from the customer.

What is your policy on side work?

With very little exception, we do not allow side work

Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?

We put a high level of effort and thought into creating and maintaining a very positive and heathy working culture at our shop. We have various specialty tools that other shops do not have and are always on the leading edge of the aftermarket service and repair industry.

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

We have a standard of a 20-hour minimum Continuing Education. The company pays for the classes, travel, accommodations, and wages during the training.

Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

There is much opportunity for career development and growth at Sherwood Auto Repair. Our Mission is to Develop Multi-Generational Relationships. This is intended for our customers and employees.

Can you describe your performance review process?

Expectations are established. We revisit our expectations and discuss progress toward benchmarks regularly.

What type of safety training is required?

An understanding and willingness to agree to our safety standards that are set forth in our employee handbook. Resources are available and it is part of the culture to conduct ourselves in a safe manner.

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

Mentoring is part of our culture of learning, growth and relationships. Everyone helps mentor given special skills and experience. We have a mentorship program outlining the elements to share. Most importantly, "The Sherwood Auto Repair Way".

How does your shop get involved with the local community?

We support the local food pantry with a fundraiser during the holidays. Breast Friends is a local non-profit organization that helps women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer. They are our charity of choice.

Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

The owner Scott, has held a seat on the Portland Community College Automotive Technology Program advisory board for more than 30 years. He also sits on the advisory board for the local high school program and participates in career development programs at many local schools. Scott has also taught community education classes on how to talk to your mechanic and an "Adulting 101" class focused on basic automotive skills such as boosting a dead battery and changing a flat tire.

Where do you see the shop in five years?

In 2029 Sherwood Auto Repair will be an enterprise. Multiple locations with a strong tie to our Culture, Mission, Vision and Purpose. Creating careers for our people and creating a solid benefit to the communities we serve.

Is there anything else you’d like to mention about career development and community?

We are in the Customer Service Business, We just happen to repair cars.

Do you have an application form and how long does it typically take to complete?

Yes. It ususally takes 15-20 minutes.

Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

Generally speaking, we communicate via text or email prior to in-person meetings. In the event that a candidate would be traveling far and considering relocating for a position we would speak on the phone or have a virtual meeting.

What do your in-person interviews entail?

Introduction and sharing of our core documents. Review of applicants resume if supplied. Interview questions. Interview answers. Candidate completes the application then we tour the shop and introduce them to the staff. Once the references have been contacted and interviewed and the candidate has been identified as a potential hire, they are invited back to a second interview with the rest of the staff.

Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?

A superficial background check is performed. For Service Advisors we may ask candidates to perform a personality test.

Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?

We do this in the form of situational questions. There is no formal process in place to vet an applicants capabilities.

After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?

Not more than 10 days. Usually within the week depending on the number of applicants.

Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?

Could be on the spot if you are a rockstar! Generally, from first contact to offer is two weeks.

Is there anything else you’d like to mention about your hiring process?

We have a comfortable quite space to meet.

A Level Technician Pay Range: $65,000.00 - $95,000.00/year

Salary based on experience. Tenure Bonus. Production bonus structure. Professionalism, Referral bonus (of another employee). Language and certification bonus plans as well.

B Level Technician Pay Range: $55,000.00 - $60,000.00/year

Salary based on experience. Tenure Bonus. Production bonus structure. Professionalism, Referral bonus (of another employee). Language and certification bonus plans as well.

C Level Technician Pay Range: $50,000.00 - $54,000.00/year

Salary based on experience. Tenure Bonus. Production bonus structure. Professionalism, Referral bonus (of another employee). Language and certification bonus plans as well.

Service Advisor Pay Range: $60,000.00 - $100,000.00/year

Salary based on experience. Commision based on Gross Profit % and Gross Profit $. Tenure Bonus. Production bonus structure. Professionalism, Referral bonus (of another employee). Language and certification bonus plans as well.

Service Manager Pay Range: $60,000.00 - $100,000.00/year

Salary based on experience. Tenure Bonus. Production bonus structure. Professionalism, Referral bonus (of another employee). Language and certification bonus plans as well.

Lube Technician Pay Range: $24.00 - $26.00/hour ($0.01 - $0.01/hr)

Hourly based on experience. Production bonus structure. Professionalism, Referral bonus (of another employee). Language and certification bonus plans as well.
