Roy O’Brien Ford has been family owned and operated for the past 76 years. We offer state of the art facilities, less than a mile away from the beautiful Lake Saint Clair in Saint Clair Shores, MI. Our dealership prides itself in employee retention rates over 90%, with family-like company culture. We are also not open during weekends, and there are no late nights. Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

The shop has new radiant heat for winter, and large fans for summer.

What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

The service department has 5 lube techs, 10 line techs, and 3 service advisors. Our body shop has 4 body men, 2 painters, and 1 prep worker. We are looking for a team of 10.

What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

Our Service Department is open M-F 7:30am - 6pm. Tech Hours are M-F 8 am-5 pm. Body Shop hours are M-F 8am- 5:30 pm. No weekend hours; the dealership is closed.

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

All specialty tools are provided.

What type of break room facility is provided?

There is a tech lounge and cafeteria.

How many bays does your shop have?

There are 23 bays in our service shop, and 32 in our body shop.

How many repair orders do you average per month?

We average 1,500 service repair orders a month, and 180 body shop orders.

What is your parts ordering process?

There is a parts department in our service lobby, manned by two employees and a delivery driver.

What is your policy on side work?

Side work is not permitted on the premises.

We are located by the beautiful lake Saint Clair. This dealership has been family ran and operated for 76 years. We pride ourselves in our growth as a team over the years, as well as helping our employees grow from within the company.

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

We offer paid Stars Training, factory approved training, through Ford for service technicians. Body shop technicians receive factory approved training as well as I-Car training.

Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

We promote from within as much as we can. Our employee retention rate is above 90%, with one of our service technicians being here for 47 years, and a service advisor for 36 years.

Can you describe your performance review process?

Our performance review process consists of a one on one sit down chat with the service manager every 90-120 days.

What type of safety training is required?

There are monthly safety training sessions for service technicians, and standard training videos for body shop technicians.

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

Entry level technicians start as lube technicians and are promoted to work with master technicians.

How does your shop get involved with the local community?

We work with various charities such as Kiwanis, Gleaners, and more. We also sponsor and participate in various car cruises in the Metro-Detroit area. The dealership as a whole hosts monthly jeans days for various charities.

Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

We work with local vocational programs as sponsors and mentors.

Where do you see the shop in five years?

In five-years, we see continued growth and demand for quality technicians 5+ years and beyond.

Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

What do your in-person interviews entail?

Our in-person interview is a simple Q&A segment. It will be a friendly conversation to have our service manager get to know the candidate, and vise versa.

Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?

There will be a physical and drug-test preformed.

Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?

After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?

You should receive a call back within a day or two.

Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?

The full hiring process time is circumstantial, but we like to get employees in ASAP if we find them a correct fit.

Our hiring process is non-stressful with an easy application.

A Level Technician Pay Range: $75,000 - $125,000/year

Flat Rate - Retention bonuses, relocation assistance, toolbox relocation, and efficiency bonuses available for qualifying candidates.

B Level Technician Pay Range: $45,000 - $65,000/year

Flat Rate - Retention bonuses, relocation assistance, toolbox relocation, and efficiency bonuses available for qualifying candidates.

C Level Technician Pay Range: $35,000 - $55,000/year

Flat Rate/ Hourly - Retention bonuses, relocation assistance, toolbox relocation, and efficiency bonuses available for qualifying candidates.

Lube Technician Pay Range: $30,000 - $40,000/year

Flat Rate/ Hourly - Retention bonuses, relocation assistance, toolbox relocation, and efficiency bonuses available for qualifying candidates.

Student Tech / Apprentice Pay Range: $30,000 - $40,000/hour

Flat Rate/ Hourly - Retention bonuses, relocation assistance, toolbox relocation, and efficiency bonuses available for qualifying candidates.

Collision Technician - A Level Pay Range: $85,000 - $110,000/year

Flat Rate - Retention bonuses, relocation assistance, toolbox relocation, and efficiency bonuses available for qualifying candidates.

Collision Technician - B Level Pay Range: $55,000 - $85,000/year

Flat Rate - Retention bonuses, relocation assistance, toolbox relocation, and efficiency bonuses available for qualifying candidates.

Collision Prepper Pay Range: $25,000 - $35,000/year

Hourly+ - Retention bonuses, relocation assistance, toolbox relocation, and efficiency bonuses available for qualifying candidates.

Health Insurance Offered: Priority Medical and Prescription Benefits are available 30 days after the 1st day of the month following your start date.
Dental Insurance Offered: Guardian Benefits are available 30 days after the 1st day of the month following your start date.
Vision Insurance Offered: Guardian Benefits are available 30 days after the 1st day of the month following your start date.
Retirement Plan Offered: 401k Benefits are available 90 days after the 1st day of the month following your start date.
Sick Leave Offered: For the first calendar year, you will receive 40 hours of PTO. You then receive 88 hours until your 6th year. It continuously grows the longer you stay with our company. Sick Leave & Vacation time are branched together in terms of PTO.

Paid Holidays Offered: Full-time employees will receive 8 hours of PTO for dealership-recognized holidays. Part-time employees receive 4 hours.

Life Insurance Offered: Full-time employees receive $10,000 in life insurance no cost to them, 30 days after the 1st day of the month following your start date.
