Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

Our new facility will be fully climate controlled all year round.

What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

We currently have 6 technicians and 4 advisors and are looking to double the technician count. Once our new shop is complete, we will have 18 in-ground hoists.

What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

We are open 7:00 - 6:00 Monday through Friday, 8:00 - 4:00 Saturday. Our shifts are either 7:00 - 5:00 or 8:00 - 6:00 with an hour lunch break. We do work a rotating Saturday schedule and on the week that you are scheduled for Saturday, you will get a day off during that week so it is still only a 5-day work week.

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

We provide laptops and Kia factory scan tools as well as all Kia factory special tools required for repairs. Jacks, jack stands, engine hoists and stands, transmission jacks, oil caddies, torches, welders, and all fluid exchange machines as well.

What type of break room facility is provided?

Our breakroom will have all the basics covered, microwave, refrigerator, and plenty of tables and chairs so you can get off your feet and relax during your lunch or if you need a few minutes during the day.

How many bays does your shop have?

Currently 10 with the new facility coming in at 18 hoists, 1 alignment rack, and a flat stall.

How many repair orders do you average per month?

Currently averaging 800 repair orders per month with the goal of double that by the first of the year.

What is your parts ordering process?

Verbal parts orders are not approved. Everything is run through our DMS and synced step by step as to not have things get forgotten about.

What is your policy on side work?

This is a case by case basis that needs to be discussed with the manager. A repair order must be written on any vehicle that is being worked on in the shop.

Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?

We are rebuilding our shop into what will be an amazing facility targeted to our technicians. Oversize bays, in ground hoists and all the latest equipment to help you achieve your goals.

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

We will send you to in person Kia factory training as well as sign you up for online factory training classes to keep you up to date on all areas of your field.

Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

Our group currently has 6 stores and we love to promote from within. We have service advisors and managers that have started with us as technicians and we are more than happy to help you grow in your career in a way that best accommodates you.

Can you describe your performance review process?

We will look at efficiency as well as usage of our in house systems for communicating with our customers. The video inspections that we perform on all of our vehicles are very important to our customers and they expect to receive them when they are in for service. Comebacks are also looked at as well on a case by case basis.

What type of safety training is required?

We do not have required safety training.

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

Our team really works as one entity. There is a broad level of knowledge in our shop and everyone works together to help each other when there are tough vehicles in the shop or when a new person is joining our team. Younger techs just getting into the field are the future of our business and as such are given a lead tech to work closely with to help grow them in the field.

How does your shop get involved with the local community?

We are active in many areas of the community not only in Milwaukee but the Madison area as well. We support childrens charities such as Feeding America and the cancer charity through the University of Wisconsin Foundation.

Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

We work with MATC to encourage young people to explore our profession and we are also active at local high schools and job fairs.

Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

Yes, this will be very informal with just a few questions.

What do your in-person interviews entail?

You will meet with the service manager and the fixed operations director and at that time your goals will be asked about as well as a discussion regarding your skill set and what you are wanting to achieve with us here. Our expectations will be presented as well and we will all discuss how this relationship will benefit everyone.

Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?

We will perform a background check, drivers license check and a 4 panel drug screen.

Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?

We do not.

After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?

Less than 72 hours from the time of the interview.

Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?

Less than a week.

Automotive technician Pay Range: $25.00 - $45.00/hour

Whether you want to start on a hybrid hourly/flate rate system or go right to full flat rate, we have the facilities and the tools to help you achieve your goals. We guarantee hours for the first 90 days. We will pay all toolbox relocation expenses. We will also honor any prearranged vacation days. We have the highest flate rate pay around and you can also earn weekly bonuses above your hourly rate.
