Under The Hood

Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

The shops are climate controlled. We have new a/c units being installed in the June 2024 time frame to improve performance in summer.

What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

We have 14 Chevrolet technicians, 6 Chevrolet quick service technicians, 7 Subaru technicians, 5 used car technicians, and 6 Subaru quick service technicians.

What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

Our current hours are; Monday through Friday 7:30 - 5:00 Saturday hours are 8:00 through 4:00. We currently rotate every third Saturday.

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

Currently we provide manufacturer specific tools. Basic technician tools are the individual responsibility

What type of break room facility is provided?

There are lunch rooms in Chevrolet and Subaru service facilities

How many bays does your shop have?

22 in Chevrolet and 16 in Subaru

How many repair orders do you average per month?

2023 year end average was 3,884 per month

What is your parts ordering process?

We use CDK Drive for communication and parts ordering

What is your policy on side work?

Employees can work on personal and immediate family vehicles in shop after hours. No other shop use is allowed.

Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?

We have an open shop. Our technicians work well together to help each other out. We have on going paid training and encourage career development.

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

We offer on going manufacturer training. Training starts with online courses and progresses through in person manufacturer training. Training is paid and varies depending on type of training.

Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

We always try to promote from with in. Each of our current managers started at lower positions and were promoted in house.

Can you describe your performance review process?

We have periodic one on one meetings to discuss progress within your professional path. These conversations are bi-lateral allowing for your input on how we are supporting you.

What type of safety training is required?

We have a battery of online courses when you start. They cover basic areas that you need to be aware of in the shop areas. We also have monthly safety training provided by the production manager. Twice a year an independent safety review is performed by KPA and further training is performed.

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

All of our quick service technicians are assigned to a line technician to help provide guidance. The quick service technicians work with line technicians when volume is low or if they want to come in on off days to work on a specific skill.

How does your shop get involved with the local community?

The dealership supports the local community through sponsorship of a variety of events. We support multiple local and national charities.

Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

Our shop foreman is active with local vo-tech, community college and tech schools programs.

Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

In some cases. I prefer to meet face to face. If circumstances dictate we can start with phone interviews to go over basics.

What do your in-person interviews entail?

Typically they start with the fixed operations manager, the next step is talking with the production manager and/or shop foreman.

Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?

We do background checks. We do not perform a pre-hire drug screen. We do require drug screen when there is an accident resulting in injury or damage. Screening is for current intoxication/impairment and illegal substances.

Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?

Typically that is established during interview.

After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?

Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?

This depends on the candidate. If we offer a job the candidate can start immediately. We do understand and encourage candidates to leave any current employer on good terms.

Is there anything else you’d like to mention about your hiring process?

The process is straight forward and simple.

Technician Pay Range: $18.00 - $50.00/hour

Additional bonuses apply, progressive pay plans that reward production, no team systems-earn what you turn, actual rates determined by experience, training, and certifications.
